Richt will get a MNC eventually if he keeps it up at UGA. He first needs to beat Tennessee and Florida in the same season...which is something he has yet to do

A couple of years ago, he seemed to be one of the more likable, respectable coaches in the country, but of late, he has been degenerating into the kind of whiny and obnoxious creature we see in Tommy Tuberville or Pete Carroll.
In short, he is a pu--y.

FYI--even though we got beat, we still finished ahead in the polls at the end of the year.

Yep.

Again, UGA was picked to finish 3rd in the SEC East that year. Average WRs, average OL, average RBs, first-year QB starter, etc.

Anyone who doesn't think that game and season was a great coaching job just has no perspective on CFB and how it generally goes.

OK. But 30% off isn't really close, imo. If it is would it be fair to say that he's "about undefeated" as a coach? Since he's won over 70% of his games?

Losing games you are not supposed to...happens all the time. Richt is no different.
In the SEC, he is on par with all the top coaches. 2 SEC titles say a lot. However, in the national picture, he comes up short. I dunno if its got anything to do with luck!

The 12-1 comparison from a previous poster doesn't hold water as you play to the competition the given year and have to come up either #1 or #2 at the end of the season. It's not just records! Ask Auburn about the 13-0. It's the system that you have to adapt to...sorry.

one question, how can anybody that plays in the SEC have avg players? that sounds like an excuse.

The point is simply that they both went 10-2 (6-2), yet Miles got the results outside of his games (i.e. no other 6-2 SECW teams) that were needed whereas Richt didn't.

I don't understand this.

Richt lost two games against SEC East opponents. LSU was 4-1 against its own division. It's not about "outside results," it's about winning your division games. If UGA beats Tennessee and loses to Auburn instead, they are in the champ game. But, UGA lost two division games and were effectively eliminated from most any tiebreaker scenarios imaginable. So look at it this way, Miles was 4-0 non conf, 4-1 division and 2-1 SEC East. Richt was 4-0 non conf, 3-2 division and 3-0 SEC West. It doesn't matter that they tied -- it matters that they lost the tiebreaker.

Anyway, Richt is a good coach, but has never been able to prove it on a big stage. He could have by beating WVU in 2005, and he could have again by beating Bama this year.

He's a good coach. Won the SEC - good enough in my book. I don't think he deserves any more or less praise than anyone else in our conference.

i don't even get into this anymore

UGA was fricking blown out. they have no argument

if there are a bunch of other 1-loss teams and LSU has 1 loss, we have no argument this year

He seems like a decent man and very good coach. Seems like he does better when less is expected of his team. But living up to the pre-season hype they were getting this year is next to impossible for any coach.

All in all, I respect him a great deal.

Not saying it didn't but some of those injuries were late in the year and we may not have had time to heal up anyway (talking Addai and JV mainly, I remember them getting hurt kinda late, Daniels too).

being in the SEC East makes this pretty tough

he's won the SEC twice and played for it another time in about 10 seasons. that's a good record

Richt's and LSU's records since Richt has been at UGA (2001-current):

LSU 79-19 overall (.806)
48-16 in SEC (.750)

UGA 78-20 overall (.796)
45-18 in SEC (.714)

LSU is 31-8 v. SECW (.795) and 17-9 v. SECE (.654)

UGA is 19-6 v. SECW (.760) and 26-12 v. SECE (.684).

Once again, very similar, and showing that the SECE has clearly been more difficult than the SECW this decade.

Losing games you shouldn't lose:
Sort of like at Kentucky and Arkansas at home which was the last game of the regular season for LSU. Losing games you are not supposed to lose happens to every coach in every sport. Its one of the things that makes sports so enjoyable.

Measuring a coach by losing a few games he is not supposed to lose is asinine. If it were the measurement, Miles should be fired as well. After all, how in the world did a mediocre Arkansas team beat LSU at home with what seemed to be a NC game birth on the line. FWIW I think Miles is a damn good coach.
