He was 2-and-4 against Tulane, went 0-fer in the SEC in 1983, and had an overall winning percentage of .511 (.417 SEC), so how did LSU do him "dirty?"

Yes, 84-86. IMO he revived the program, especially with recruiting. Two Sugar Bowl games in three seasons. Got Tommy Hodson on board which paved the way through 89. Wish he had stayed longer.

He was the coach when I first started paying attention to LSU football, I would say I was not following it yet.

Jerry Stovall was in his first year as coach when I started college at LSU, though technically I had taken more of an entrance before the season started so you could say that. Bo Rein was the coach when I started really following the program.
