I think it's a fair question.
I know there are people who swear he's gone and laugh at any suggestion that he might return.
Objectively-
running back isn't that huge a priority for NFL teams. There are plenty of backs out there that are "good enough", and a fairly long history of the highest picked backs (the biggest names) not making any difference in playoff hopes.
Fournette hasn't shown the wow factor this season, he's been good when he's played. Guice has been at least as good when Fournette hasn't, and in the very small sample we saw, Guice looked better against Auburn than he did.
Consider the comparison to Ben Simmons- Simmons went #1 in the NBA draft because people kept saying he can make others around him better, and he has the intangible skills to elevate a team. Fournette, by being a power running back, makes everyone around him less effective, in that he is at his best when he gets the ball a lot. That's fine if you want to build a running team (with play action elements), but then you need him to be healthy and run the ball. So far, he's not, and hasn't been this season.
I think this season is doing serious damage to his draft stock, and the longer he sits out, the more it wouldn't shock me to see him return and try to restore his place as top running back. Of course, it also wouldn't shock me to see him leave anyway, using the "only so many carries in the tank" argument.

Read the title of this and couldn't figure out what you meant... Stay until when? November? January? What's he talking about?
Then I opened the thread and saw you were talking about LF7 staying for his senior year and that made me laugh out loud

If he is still projected to be a top 10 pick, he leaves. If this injury nags and he doesn't play much, I give him a 5% chance of returning (only to improve his draft stock).
It is not 0%. Tim Duncan kept coming back to Wake Forest when he would have been #1 pick after sophomore year (played 4 years). Shaq came back to LSU after being national player of the year as a sophomore. They loved the college life. Shaq has said in interviews that if he had a time machine, he would go back to Baton Rouge from 89-92 (when he was a poor college student, but loving life).
After saying that, if I was his dad, I would encourage him to go pro, even if his injury nagged and he dropped to 2nd round. He could rehab it at an NFL facility. But, we don't know what he is thinking, that is why it is not 0% chance he comes back.

What chance do you give that fournette will stay?
1. It is no secret that a running back's shelf life in the NFL is shorter than any other position because of the wear and tear on the body at that position.
2. LF took a lot of hits last year on his way to the LSU single-season record.
3. LF is banged up pretty good to miss as much time as he is missing right now.
4. The NFL knows what LF can do and are not going to penalize him for being hurt this year so he won't drop his draft status which would be one of the reasons to coming back if his draft status was affected dramatically. Also LF should be a top 5 pick at this point so improving his stock coming back doesn't seem likely.
5. After this season LF probably understands a little better the risks he is taking coming back to college when his chosen profession is the NFL at this point, so if he wants to get paid he has to stay healthy which is a risk coming back to college.
6. Risks besides injury. Don't have to look far back to see what happened to L. Collins to understand what the risks are other than injury that can affect your draft status. Obviously, it was a rare occurrence what happened but it still cost Collins millions of dollars that he can't ever get back.
7. This financial decision is not just about him, he has his own family now to think about and what is not just best for him but what is best for his family also.
Conclusion:
You look at all of that and assuming LF is a smart kid and has smart people around him advising him, then that should lead to a ZERO percent chance of LF coming back to LSU, and I for one will wish him all the success in the world for making the right decision for him and his family!

after getting hurt this year, what kind of fool would think he would stay another year, and maybe face a career ending injury next year ? -100% is more like it

If he says he's coming back, some coach should pull his scholly.
