The village called. They need you back.

quote:I think you're right to include 'pedigree'. I think that played a role in the past. In fact I think such things matter out west than they do around here (contrary to popular belief). When other coaches pretty much stick to their tree and that tree includes long-time or famous coaches (e.g. Schembechler, Robinson), the word pedigree gets applied (e.g. Saban and Chuck Noll). If your like Orgeron and sort of bounce from tree to tree it doesn't get applied.
Maybe pedigree isn't the right word.
Lack of development as a coach from within that pedigree is what I mean.
He was never asked to do anything besides coach the D line and get the guys fired up.
Do I think it was a major factor? No. But many of these hirings come from so & so recomends so & so it could be limiting. After all, if you're Pete Carroll do you recommend a guy you worked with for a couple of years one time or do you recommend a guy who you worked with multiple times.

Please give me the reasons you're so confident.
Seriously, I'd like to hear.
Because since he got the job this season his has made a bunch of great moves and decisions that everyone said needed to be made and fixed a bunch of others that nobody here was even aware existed until after the firing of Miles.
And when I started a thread asking never CEO folks what he is doing wrong or what they would want HC to do differently it was met with nary a single response pointing out a single deficiency. Just more Never-CEO crap without any reason behind it.

That's sounds like a pretty damn good reason!

What are we missing about Orgeron?
Everyone that knows him is confident that he will be successful. Why isn't that enough for you.

I guess time will tell but in the meantime I'm all coach O and the rest of you can go frick yourselves.

It's a better reason than your retorts to the contrary.

He was given a chance. For three years at Ole Miss. And he was fricking bad, historically bad. Most rational administrators don't blithely assume that a coach who was 3-21 in the SEC will suddenly transmogrify into a NC winning juggernaut. Hell, even LSU didn't want him. They preferred Herman. There is no mystery here.

The guy just has a limited skill set. He can coach D line and recruit.
well, you can say that all you want but I say a lot more than that the last few months. sorry, but I don't believe what others say just because it's popular. the guy turned this team around. he has a MUCH larger skill set than you portrayed. maybe observation is a skill set you don't have.

He took over a fricking terrible program in Oxford. Super duper shitty bad. He was let go after three seasons and the brain dead Houston Nutt came in and rattled off two 9 win seasons with O's recruits. Keep in mind that this was the golden era of the sec...seven straight championships and 4 different champions in a 5 year span.
I think his failures in Oxford are overstated.

Slow down. In order to give my question context, you must state his appeal as a HC. Without his bonafides as a legit candidate, the mystery of him being constantly snubbed doesn't exist.
Reading is fundamental.

Lmao! He has the worst winning percentage in Ole Miss history! Also, his predecessor Cutcliffe had far more success than him, including a 10 win season just a couple of seasons earlier. Please do research before making totally inaccurate arguments.

He was a notorious drunkard who got into multiple bar fights and showed up at recruits' houses drunk. Almost cost him his career - I'm sure you can still find articles about it
And he is now sober which if you have been around alcoholics you would know takes a special person.
