I don’t think they’ve settled in yet. They’ll both have plenty of time to find their spots.

Right now Devin looks like he may warrant a midweek start imo.

High leverage relief. Not constricted to save situations.

Fontenot can be the go to closer until further notice.

Unless he’s going to start on the weekends, we need his arm out of the pen in SEC play.

Fontenot pitches like a closer and has the attitude of one! Kid is clutch and if he continues to pitch like this he deserves the job

Coming in and shutting down an SEC opponent is more important than midweek starts. I used to feel the same as you, but truly, if we shine in conference, mid week is almost like glorified scrimmages.

Fontenot is the best pitcher on the staff right now

Peterson had a couple good outings this year, and a few not so good. Hope he bounces back, we could use everyone

Mainieri seems like he's always trying to talk one of our pitchers up as being the next Louis Coleman, who can close, do long relief, or start, and dominate in any role. But those guys just never can pull off multiple roles.

But Fontenot is beginning to remind me A LOT of Louis Coleman, right now. The way he's given long relief and dominated the last two weeks, and then he comes in for a one inning save tonight and looks just as sharp. If we needed him to start, I think he'd excel there, too.

So, to answer your question, yes, I see Fontenot as the hybrid closer/long relief guy who'll come into close games in the middle innings, if the starter struggles, just as he's been doing.

Peterson's role is up in the air, until he shows he can consistently get people out. He's done well in short and long relief, at times, but hasn't been good enough yet, this year, to be counted on in close games, unless we HAVE to use him.

Agreed.

It’s not crazy at all to suggest he needs to close.

I honestly don’t give a shite if we have a dominant closer. It’s overrated in my opinion. Don’t pull the hot hand just because it’s the 9th and if it’s a game like tonight where your starter goes late just put your best reliever in and let him finish it.
