I think people on here that are worried completely ignore the covid effect. No spring ball, limited to no crowds making home field practically obsolete, players opting out, etc. It’s not just us. Many top teams expected to be contenders are faltering not just us. It just looks worse for us because all this is following the greatest single season of all time.

Listen, this year is bad and especially with Brennan’s injury it doesn’t look to get better soon. Florida getting a covid breakout was really lucky for our W-L record. But I agree that coach O has shown over the last 4 years that he won’t wait to make coaching change if things aren’t working. He didn’t even like Aranda’s style but the guy was producing so he stayed until he got the HC job. That and other moves previously mentioned show that he values production over ego or anything else.

Bottom line, I think this season is a perfect storm and not a sign of things to come.

So 2019 was all about coaching and Burrow, Clyde, JJ, Dylan, Cush, Lewis, Charles, Lawrence, Queen, Phillips, Delpit, Fulton, Vincent, Chase and Shelvin didn’t help?

This is silly. Nobody is implying that the players didn’t earn that natty. But Orgeron built the team. They all deserve credit.

It amazes me that people around here want to put 100% of the blame on Orgeron for this year’s failures, while only giving him 10% of the credit for last year’s success. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t say “well, it was really all Joe Burrow and Joe Brady last year” while also saying “well, Orgeron hired Pelini and recruited the defensive players so it’s his fault.”

Personally, I believe that the buck stops with the head coach regardless of whether or not the team is successful.

Perfection? Holy shite, I’m just looking for a defense with a pulse, and an offense that doesn’t go ofer on 3rd down. And every team in America has had to deal with COVID, why has it affected LSU more than others?

What an unbelievable team Coach O built last year.
Lightening occurred in a bottle and he was holding it.
He created parts of it.
The rest was blind luck.

Explain what 'the rest' consisted of..........

Burrow, the most important component, was a gift.

Then why was he not considered a 'gift' in 2018 when he had a decent, but not great year?
Coach O persuaded Burrow to come here. How in frick is that a 'gift' ???????

O should get all the credit a Championship head coach deserves but to be fair a lot of key guys from that team like Lawrence, Fulton, Divinity, Sullivan, Logan, Anthony, Lewis and Cush were all from Miles last recruiting class. Trust me I was never a Miles guy but those players were his kids from the 2016 class.

Uh, LSU would have been fortunate to win six games in ‘18 if Burrow hadn’t been here, so I’d say it was most definitely a gift even then.

Knowing what we know about Joe Burrow now, does anyone in their right mind actually believe he was going to Cincinnati to play in the American Athletic Conference???

He was always coming to LSU, which is why his family reached out to Busch.

If anything they convinced O and E to take him, not the other way around.

There's no excuse for the Bo hire at this time. O seems to remember that "attacking" style of defense and wants it back. The problem is with offenses today it just doesn't seem to work that way anymore

You’re right, I’m thinking of Cameron Lewis. Pretty big difference lol.

Eh, Divinity only played 6 games. Sullivan played in all 15 games but only had 12 catches last year. Anthony didn’t play much last year. I don’t know that I would call any of those players “key guys” from last year. Although Divinity did make an impact when he actually played.

Orgeron was the DL coach when Logan and Lawrence were recruited.

Fulton, Lewis, and Cush are fair though.

ETA: Not Lewis.

It’s amazing how quick most of the board has turned on O and frankly I’m sick of the negativity.
That's rich coming from someone who constantly shits on many of the players.

OP on whether Brennan is cleared to play:
quote:

I hope not, I want the backups to get reps. This season is done and Brennan isn’t the answer, we need a killer out there not a limp wrist. ...

OP on Emery
quote:

Emery needs to change positions, he’s not an sec back, neither is curry. ...Emery should never see the field....

OP on Cox
quote:

Cox is definitely a bust, LSU should never have to go to d2 schools and poach players. He hits very soft

OP on Boutte
quote:

Boutte did look scared, I was disappointed in his look. He must have caught that from his QB

There is more. But "Muh, don't shite on Coach O. Just shite on all the players like me."

Correction: Coach O built the greatest team the sport has ever seen. Period. When even the biased ESPN guys say so, you know it was real.

There may be other 15-0 teams in the future, but not one that dominated top teams like that one did.

Can he build another NC team? Likely.

Will he duplicate 2019? I hope no one will.

Burrow, the most important component, was a gift.

How many coaches would have pursued him over the summer after already going through the spring pre-season? His recognition that they needed to get Burrow wasn't a no-brainer. Narcisse and Brennan were higher rated QBs than Burrow. JB was the sometime 3rd and 2nd string QB on Ohio St. There was no guarantee he was going to be special.

He took a chance on Brady who wasn't even a position coach at NO. He was less than 3 years removed from being a grad assistant at William and Mary.

O built the support staff with guys like Munoz and DJ Mangus who were instrumental in Burrow and the offense's development.

All of those studs currently tearing it up in the NFL are HIS recruits.

He deserves criticism for bad hires, recruiting misses and when the team struggles. He also deserves credit for the successes.

You can't accept one and not the other.

I wasn't excited about the Linehan hire and was kind of neutral about Pelini. I think O was wanting stability and scheme change with the Pelini hire (Pelini probably wouldn't jump at another job for a while).

Linehan was probably two fold. His NFL pedigree and the connection to Garrett Nussmeier. The frustrating thing here is we brought in Callaway who I think should be in Linehan's seat and then take Ensminger's OC spot when he is ready to step back.

I think that too much is made of this. Unless you have worked with someone you really don't know if you will be able too. He hired the top assistant in Matt Canada but they didn't work well together and it was NOT the offense O wanted. I believe he was pressured into that hire. While many disagree the book is still out on Pelini...3 games and a young players in a new scheme is way too early to judge IMO of course
