I guess we were just hoping to see some glimpses than we did.

I plead guilty.

For next year I think Cameron is going to make that call. With Jennings, Rettig and Harris, I'm pretty optimistic.

OK guys way to derail the thread. The OP had nothing to do with AJ. He didn't question the guys play or ability. The question was about Rettig.

Rettig was being pumped up big on this site until Jennings started turning heads.

They'll adapt the system to the throws the QB can make consistently. It will be fun to watch and see.

I think so too. Cameron has spring and summer practices with 3 talented kids. Should be a lot of fun.

Some of you people and your expectations...

Man, I'm not saying it's indicative of Jennings' future. But, his performance today was below what I was expecting...and my expectations weren't very high.

The kid has a long way to go, and the QB job absolutely should be up for grabs next year, IMO.

To put it another way, if Jennings had come out and played better (not Mett level or anything) I think he could have guaranteed himself the starting job. That didn't happen and the backup QBs should feel very good about being able to step up their play and potentially take the job.

I agree. It seemed that sometimes he was guiding the ball, rather than simply throwing it. That's a mental thing that can be worked out with practice and experience. But I think it's a good thing we have at least 3 guys that should have the focus of winning the starting spot.

Jennings made some bad throws but those blitz packages Iowa used worked exactly how they wanted them to..he wont see these every game and recognizing these packages is something he'll work on during the offseason but I dont see anyone taking his spot..Rivers didnt even get a shot this season so thats saying something..

I've seen him at practices and scrimmages . Big arm , needs to get quicker with release and his reads. Could be Mett 2,0 when the light comes on.

I am glad all these fans go to practices and workouts every day and see who the best players are and see who gets chances to play.

What?! People are actually hating on Jennings for today?

- Iowa has a great defense
- He's true freshman in his first start
- Rain
- Game plan was definitely revolved around the running game and not putting it on Jennings

That's the thing, not everyone is Winston. Whatever the young man has, I'm confident Cameron can get it out of him.

when one steps into the role of starting qb at LSU the guys behind him are ALWAYS better than him. the best of all are the high school seniors we are recruiting.

Rettig has much more of a chance to earn the starting job than I thought he did after watching Jennings today. The starting QB job is wide open

The running ability, the pinpoint pass on the TD in the Ark game and confidence we saw in the last minute of the Arkansas game, was nowhere to be seen today

if i was the coach i damn sure would not have dialed up ONE fricking run for him today unless the game was on the line. good coaches try not to get their back up qb hurt so they have a better chance of WINNING THE frickING FOOTBALL GAME.

common sense just doesn't seem to be real popular on this board.

The rant basically exists in its own little alternate reality. I watched the game with my dad & cousins and the general attitude was, well, rough game for Jennings but we gutted it out and played some great football in the trenches; he'll improve next year. Then I logged in here and was just stunned.

Consensus at our house:
Hill and defense won the game for us
Jennings didn't lose the game for us

ST did their part. Was above avg compared to the season on an eye test, IMO.
