We will know for sure at about mid season.

our defense ran in circles last year.in my eyes they should have been barred from coaching.

Fact is that if Mallory and Peveto were bad coaches they would not have been hired elsewhere.
They are good coaches or Pelini would never have them on his defensive staff. They are now a DC and a head coach if I am correct.
Did they have problems with the coDC? Sure but they were not the main problem.
We had a VERY young defense last year. All but one of the backfield had played very little if at all and the same for the backers. Defensive line suffered from a rash of nicknack injuries that while not putting people out of play, kept them from playing at 100%.
So, nothing unfair happened, it was just an ordinary season when we are used to very good ones.
Remember video kids, you do not win every game unless you are VERY lucky, injuries are kept to a low level and.......... there are no cheat codes in football and you can't win every game by 50.

Chavis might start screwing up--or he might even go down with an injury. Then Mallory and Peveto would have been available to go right in and save the team.
I think its hilarious you got two pages of actual responses even with this sentence thrown in there.

Exactly.

Were the Tigers too hasty in dismissing them for Chavis?
Maybe the coaches should have given them a chance to redeem themselves.
I mean it's not a foregone conclusion that just because they failed last year they would have failed this year.
Why did coach Miles just assume that they would not improve?
Perhaps coach Miles should have handed them the reigns once again this year. I mean, what would that have cost the team?
Or maybe they should have been kept on as consultants to Chavis. I mean, who knows? Chavis might start screwing up--or he might even go down with an injury. Then Mallory and Peveto would have been available to go right in and save the team.
It would seem that after all those two guys did for us, after all the effort they gave, we should have stood behind them and showed a little support.
It's a shame that now we'll vever know if coaches Mallory and Peveto could have redeemed themselves.
I mean, what's the worst thing that could have happened?
Mr. Offdacorner, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Whatever.
Everyone deserves a chance at redemption.
It's not Mallory or Peveto's fault that they were forced to take over as co DC's.
I blame the whole situation on Bo Pelini leaving for Nebraska.
It's his fault and Mallory and Peveto should not have been made the scapegoats.
Now we just dismiss them and hire a guy who has no experience as an LSU coach?
Plus, as I said before, what if Chavis gets lockjaw or something? It's as if nobody here has ever heard of a defensive coordinator going down during the season. Now we've got nobody to come in and right the ship should that happen.
Mallory and Peveto had to perform against the meat of LSU's schedule--against the toughest opposition.
So please don't tell me that if LSU goes out there and shuts down Washington that we are going to just crown Chavis.
Let's wait and see what he does against the toughest teams in the SEC.
During that time, if coach Miles feels that Mallory and Peveto have improved, I would not be at all surprised to see them both re-hired and to see Chavis demoted to second string DC.

The landscape of college football has changed tremendously in the last decade. The old days, coaches easily got 5 years to implement a program. However, with the emergence of coaches like Stoops at Oklahoma (NC in 3 years I think), Tressel at Ohio State (NC in two years), and Miles at LSU (NC in 3 years); programs and their fans want results NOW. Heck, I can’t blame them.
The defense really sucked last year. I find it hard to believe that we can score 38 points against Georgia…AND LOSE! I wish those old defensive coaches the best, but LSU was not the right place for them.

Of course we all hear things and I take them with a grain of salt Re: LSU football, but here's one I heard.
A friend of a friend is a head coach at a Louisiana high school. Worked some camps with Peveto over the years.
Said as far as on field coaching, he wouldn't hire Peveto for his staff.

NOT no but HELL no. They were setting records that no DC wanted to claim at LSU and you think they were treated unfair? Florida/Georgia were some of the two worst performances in LSU history...on a extremely talented team. You figure it out.

I've heard when we hired him in 2005, he was on his way out at MTSU.

Without getting into schemes or talent, our defense last year was hard to watch. Our guys had a hard time lining up to formations. Sometimes they couldn't line up to certain formations multiple times in a game. With our defense on the field, we couldn't even line up to a field goal formation. I believe the end result of this play was a fake and a touchdown. Players not being able to line up to formations usually comes down to poor coaching. I know if I were a DC and my players couldn't get lined up, I would take the heat.

Did you see the same d that I saw last year?
