Did Bower mess up? Yes, but there is supposed to be support for LBer's in case the DL on that side can't get off their blocks.

Yep. Bower got too far upfield. As another poster mentioned earlier, that's why the QB kept. However, the MLB should have been able to make the read, slide over, and either stop him or force him back inside.

Yes, that's a tough play but MLB in the 4-3 is tough. You often have to cover 2 gaps.

If the runner gets beyond the LB, the safety is the last line. I think it was Martin on this play.

Welter has a lineman and a tight end double teaming him

In the image the TE can just sit there in laugh as he is not remotely needed. The play was designed to take out the MLB with 2. They only needed 1 and he is trying to fight off the block to get away from the play. While a player who is not in position to make the play does so do to his athletic ability.

Looks like Gilmore getting great push and almost making a big TFL on the play. I wonder what else he was doing five yards behind the line of scrimmage?

I'd rather see a gif honestly. How did kwon get where he was?
Went back and watched. Gilmore does make a good play causing the running back to stp and side step right before the screenshot. Kwon started at the line with the other 3 d-linemen but was unblocked. Gilmore's rush slowed the receiver down enough for Kwon to catch up, which was still a nice tackle for a 2 yard gain. We were playing with 6 DB's against their 4 WR's, relying on two deep safeties to come over before anyone got the first down.

I'm glad I was able to turn ya'lls but hurt towards me. Hate me all you want. I made the mistake a few years ago of attacking our coach and one of our players. I learned from my mistake. Hope ya'll will too.

You nailed it. That's why we saw Kwon run past Welter to make tackles against MSU.

He would've had to be completely hammered to stay the whole time at that game.

Thank You, Welter did not miss his assignment, but was not in placed. I see , but if you look at the still picture, Debo reacted to quickly to the receiver and the quarterback didn't even get into the throwing position. I 'm just agreeing with tiger track film room that debo, welter and bowers were all at fault on this play.
I have less fault with Bowers. Every time NMS ran that play he was 2 yards in the back field spying on a run his way. The line shifts to the left to follow the running back, but does not overrun. On this play Lewis Neal clearly runs out of his lane with eyes only on the running back. If Bowers made a mistake by going outside the o-line, Neal killed it by completely selling out towards the misdirection.

Was Debo out of the play? Seems like it. On the previous lineup before the false start it looks like he was solidly in run support. Then after the whistle, he starts talking to the safety all the way up until the next play starts (quick snap by NMS). Exactly a second before the ball is snapped, while Welter is looking straight ahead, Debo turns towards Welter and makes some sort of hand motion as he (guessing on this next part) suddenly realizes that Welter wasn't in on his conversation with the safety and doesn't know he will be following the receiver. Welter doesn't appear to be looking at Debo when he does that.

Wow...

Debo was split out wide guarding the slot receiver.

But still, what is debo to do? Leave Collins on an island with 3 guys? That's a screen to the house (although it's what happened anyway)

What Bower had to say about it

Props to Bower for taking responsibility for his failure. His was not the only failure, though. Welter got ate up and vacated the second level, then Martin got out of position.

Welter has a little Zach Thomas in him. Very little.

Y'all are all getting caught up arguning about the symptom, not the problem. Who missed their assignment - I have no idea, because I have no idea what defensive play was called. This one busted play is like several others this year - a symptom of a bigger problem, which is we are weak up the gut.

So - let's try something different!! If the current starting players cannot operate within the scheme effectively, we have two options - change the players or change the scheme. I don't care which one it is - just fricking get it fixed. QUICK. We have only a few days before a freight train is coming up the middle.

If he stays right where he is lined up he could cover both. Most importantly, it is what Welter is expecting him to cover and it looks like he changed his coverage without telling Welter.

And why would the screen go to the house? Two wide receivers would be blocking against 2 DB's and a safety without Debo. And debo would be coming in on the play as well.

But I do believe that Neal had the biggest mistake. I don't think he realized where the ball was until the TD.
