He didn't technically say Matulis is first out of the pen but he said Bradshaw would start and Matulis "would definitely pitch...and after that we'll see". It is pretty safe to assume Matulis will be the first one out of the pen. After that it depends on how close the game is.

I think you are confusing the team roster with the dress for games roster.

Not all 35 players on the team roster can be on the active game roster and dress out for each game. The game roster can change from week to week based on injuries, who is playing better, etc. The 35 person team roster is set in stone from the day prior to the start of the season and can not be changed even if injuries occur.

Matulis stayed on the team roster all season last year. He just did not make the dress for games roster after Chad Jones emerged as a dependable left-handed reliever. I don't know for a certainty what the game dress roster limit number is, but I'll take the previous poster's word for it that it is 25. That sounds about right.

Matulis dressed out and pitched all the way until the SEC tournament, then disappeared. Chad Jones didn't really become a reliable reliever until the college world series, particularly game 1 of the championship series.

Chad Jones emerged, so Matulis took a back seat doesn't really work.

From what I hear Mcneese doesn't have much talent in the pitching department.

I know it's Valpo, but the bullpen left the series with a 2.16 ERA. Drastic improvement from last year. Got a shutout today.

We shall see.

You are entitled to your own opinion but not to your own facts.

Jones played in every one of the last four SEC series starting with the Auburn series in late April. He also played in 4 of the 6 SEC tournament games and 2 of the 3 Baton Rouge regional games. That means from the Auburn series onward, Jones played in over half of the games leading up to the super-regional series with Rice.

In six of the games he pinch hit. In another 5, he relieved. In one game, he did both. His versatility as a relief pitcher and as a pinch hitter bumped Matulis off of the game roster.
