The portal is another reason the bowls are meaningless.

Would make things interesting to let those who transfer before a certain date participate in the bowl game for the team they transfer to

I’d argue bowls are an argument to scrap the portal.

We’ll be fine on offense, but I just hope JBC and Garner are going to play. If those two are out OConnell is going to look like Brees.

TE won’t be an issue nor will LB.

I mean, we have serviceable walk on tight ends . They block better than our scholarship ends

Mashburn is one of the most underrated guys on the team.

Even though the light did come on for Taylor I thought 82 should have been starting at first.

Perfect game to see what the back ups can do. The game truly means nothing, get them some experience.

As much as I dislike the transfer portal bowl games have been nothing but meaningless exhibition games for the last decade or so.

You can wish they mean what they used to all you want but the fact is is they don’t and never will again.

Something has just gone seriously wrong with the culture of CFB. This is the school that injected oranges with vodka and threw the biodegradable empty screwdrivers onto the field just for making a certain bowl.

I’m not even 30, but my first season as a knowledgeable passionate fan was 2007, when things were still pretty pure.

I know there’s a few layers of irony in my saying this as someone who leans to the right on most issues, but screw the SCOTUS for sticking its nose in one of the best things in this country. They didn’t have to take that case for NIL.

The true benefit of a bowl is the extra month of practice you get with it. Unless you were in the Sugar or similar, that was ALWAYS the biggest benefit.

And that's why there is such strong resistance to phasing them out. Nobody wants to watch them anymore, but the coaching staff wants to get that extra time in to better shape their team.

Apart from the major bowls, what did the bowls ever mean that they don’t now? Most had no bearing on who won the national title, the same as is true today. I’m not sure what meaning you think there was in the old days in second tier bowls that has been lost.

Yeah. It's called entering the portal by May 1st if you want to play fall sports.

What about Nick Storz? Isn't he still on the team?

I think she meant allowing a player who transfers in early December to play in the bowls at the end of the month and January. Obviously things like school enrollment and familiarity with the playbook would make that impractical.

Huh! I wonder if BK has enough bodies to suit up for that bowl game with Purdue. Okay, I don't claim to be an expert on this Transfer Portal stuff, but could the NCAA wait until after the bowl games are over and the final rankings are out to open the Transfer Portal?

Having said that, IMO the NCAA is the NFL's bitch.

Prove me wrong.

SCOTUS did not rule on NIL.

I think it is bad now because you have an entire extra class (the COVID Year) competing for the same roster spots. That is creating pressure to enter the portal early before rosters fill up in the Spring.

Once the last group with the extra COVID year ages out (the Max Johnson / TJ Finley class) of eligibility, there should be less competition and less pressure to enter the portal before the Spring.
