We’ve only received the ball to start the game in the first two games this year.

FSU - Drove 61 yds down the field & should have scored, but came up empty.
Grambling - Scored on a 77 yd drive

We kicked the ball off the last 3 games & offense hasn’t started as well.

Miss St - 3 pts
Ark - 3 & out (our only one)
Ole Miss - 1 first down & punt

What about the opening drive of the second half when we receive?
Miss St - 3 pts
Ark - scored on a 75 yd drive
Ole Miss - scored on a 85 yd drive

Agreed. LSU needs to get a TD on the first drive to send a signal and keep the crowd minimal. Do not put the defense on the field first.

You people are the worst. Kelly JUST figured out that we need to defer always.

Even if they score first, we get the ball to start the second half. So either we tie up the game or we score before half and take the lead(like last week)

1Q offense against Ole Miss sucked arse, first three drives were two punts and a fumble.

Do you not realize how good our offense is in the 2 minute offense?

We need to defer so we can score right before halftime and the get the ball back after half. Its how we got the lead vs Ole Miss. Its basically stealing a possession.

LSU should go for it on every 4th down. Getting 20 to 30 yards better field position does not make any difference, opponents will gain that yardage in one play anyway.

Of all the things to bitch about...this isn't one.

In the last two games getting the ball to start the 3rd quarter has really benefited LSU. It basically destroyed all of the momentum the opponent built in the first half.

Vs. Arkansas, LSU scored a TD with 30 seconds to go in 2nd quarter to make the score 13-10 Arkansas. LSU then gets the ball to start the 3rd quarter. 1:00 in LSU scores a TD to go up 17-13. Arkansas controlled the entire first half. Yet, LSU got (essentially) back to back possessions and erased all of Arkansas's good work almost immediately.

Same thing happened vs. Ole Miss. Ole Miss lead the entire 1st half. LSU scored a TD with less than 1:00 to go in the 2nd to cut the lead to 31-28. Hell, they miss an opportunity to tie right before the half with the missed FG. Nevertheless, LSU got the ball to start the 2nd half a scored right away to take the lead 35-31.

Taking the ball in the 2nd half is the only way (outside of a turnover) to get back to back possessions with your offense without the opponent having much or any time to posses the ball. LSU went from being down 31-21 with 2:00 to go in the first half to being up 35-31 3:00 into the second half...all with OM only having one possession, with little time left on the clock, in between.

That could be a mental gut-punch for the opponent. You control most of the 1st half. Yet, your opponent capitalizes on those back to back possessions and erases all of the good work you did in the first half.

Yet, you make a good argument that we should defer and receive the ball after half.

people will think we're crazy, but I said this as well. Unless it's like a real long 4th down, we should always go for it as long as we are at the 50 or better. Also, every route should be ran at or past the first down on those 4th downs.

Set the tone early on. You obviously have not played football. I have played in the P5. Always best to set the tone early in away games.

LSU set the tone early on in Oxford. It was clear before mid-Q1 that LSU was in trouble.

No one cares if you played in P5. This will be a game that we want more possessions and so want the ball after half

No. The offense has had a couple of slow starts in a row then pick up to the point that they are almost unstoppable.

In what looks like another shootout, I’d rather the ball to start the 3rd quarter when we are usually red hot.

Especially if we end the first half with a score.

We missed a field goal at end of 2nd quarter. I’d prefer we didn’t start the game down 14-0

how on god's green earth would people downvote this?

You put your best unit on the field first... and it ain't our defense.

Nah, we started off down 6-0 against Ark. We were down 14-0 at Ole Miss.

Why would you want to start a game like that?

Umm we don't start the game down 14-0 unless we don't score on our opening drive which pretty much negates your original point.

Also we only had a chance to kick that FG before halftime because of how quickly we score with 2:00 left and then how quickly we went BACK down the field after one of our only defensive stops.

So yeah, having more possessions at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half is WAY to much of an advantage to pass up.

Bruh.. we didn’t receive the kickoff, which is the point I’m making & provided proof.

We drive down the field & score when we receive the kick. Game should’ve been at least 7-7 instead of 14-0, IF we receive the kick
