re: We mistakened Nuss to be a QB to build a 18 mil roster around

Excuses are getting old. If he was a good quarterback he’d figure it out and not have regressed. I was all hyped up for him after last year too but after seeing him this year I realize how bad he is mentally. LSU is heading to another garbage bowl Season is done.

Nuss is not the problem....coaching, schemes, situational coaching on both offense and defense, and we should have added proven offensive guards and tackles instead of relying on young and inexperienced players that we have on the offensive line now. The thinking was that we only needed a center but that thinking has cost us another showing in the college playoffs.

I truly hope this ends the "#18" and "#7" crap - it is now an embarrassment & an insult to the original wearers.
A compromise would be the #7 and #18 jerseys be awarded during the season. Could provide some bye week hype and would reward on-field performance over hype and projections.
If I had to vote today: Haulcy #7; Whit #18. If you have to choose on offense. Green #7; Moore #18 patch.

lthough the defense struggled immensely in getting Vandy off the field, I can't put blame on them as you can't have an A game every single damn game on Defense. Offense has to pick it up once in a while, and have yet to score more than 24 points vs an FBS team in 6 games is god awful.
While I agree in part, the defense was abused. This wasn't giving up a few plays but keeping the team in it. This was getting abused and being completely lost. Vandy made easy plays. And there were plenty of these issues that other teams just didn't take advantage of. Two things can be true. You can be disgusted with how the defense played on Saturday while also being fed up with the offensive structure as a whole for an entire season.
Has Nuss been as good as he was last year? No. Does he deserve criticism? Yes. But the offensive structure as a whole is garbage. Do you know how bad it is when you run an RPO to the playfield? We run so many RPOs to the play side which is a cardinal sin in football. You literally take away opportunities in the run game. You literally take away the opportunity for homeruns when you call that because your WRs are not blocking the secondary. And unless you are in bump and run coverage the slot defenders and safeties have free access in the run game. Therefore, your QB is just going to throw the ball almost every RPO. Thats a system failure.
How about the fact that our Co-OC can't figure out which receivers to play and we platoon substitutions after every play so Nuss cannot even call plays until 15 seconds left on the playclock so we are behind the 8-ball every time.
An offensive line that gets manhandled and beaten in both pass protection and run protection is Coaching. You either missed in the portal and in recruiting or you didn't do a good enough job in development. Also some of the techniques that we are teaching are awful. So they either aren't be corrected or they are being taught incorrectly.
Everyone wants to blame Nuss but the fact of the matter is this is a terribly Coached football team especially offensively. And quite frankly if another QB does play for us this year it will be worse. The offensive system and structure is broken. There were 6 miss-reads from Nuss on Saturday which people like you and Ruffino act like is abysmal. Which is tiresome not a single player plays a flawless game but that is what is expected from him with y'all. Of the 6-miss reads 3 were due to pressure, 1 was on an RPO but again our structure is so flawed that if you don't want the QB to throw it then don't call an RPO that has play side and back side receivers in route. 1 was a dumb screen call to Zavion Thomas and the other was on a terrible 3rd and goal where Nuss needed to just throw the ball away. The Kyle Parker miss was a miscommunication as Nuss expected a Post or an in-breaking route and Kyle expected to just go vertical. And unfortunately again pressure was there.
Did Nuss play great? No. Did he play bad? No. Did he play good with what he had to work with? yes. Our offensive structure is that bad and expecting a different result while changing a QB is laughable.

Blake ruffino said Garrett went on a podcast and said he thinks it's dumb to show up to the building at 5am. He also said he watches more film than everyone and learned more about being a QB from Myles Brennan than anybody he's been around. Whoever the guy was that said it's known around the program that garrett coasts through and doesn't put the work in looks to be correct. He's a pompous poser SNS
If that's true then Nuss is an absolute idiot.

I wouldnt take anything Blake Ruffino says seriously. Wouldn’t even call him “LSU media”
Just a click bait, negative, miserable person to listen to.

We wasted a lot of that 18 mil. Outside of Green and Parker, our TE/WR group is grossly overrated.

Here's the problem with "Nuss is the problem" arguments... we still have some jackass that was relieved of playcalling duties at La Tech running this offense.
There is no way to be sure if Nuss is the issue. QBs don't typically regress like he has.

Nuss certainly didn't help himself. If burrow is the standard, then Nuss grades C-/D+ across the board. My personal opinion is that Nuss does not display the maturity and intellect that Joe had. My hunch is that he is lazy. Sloan vs Brady hurt Nuss toon if we compare them also. Sloans lack of imagination and innovation certainly didn't put Nuss in a position to help the team. Personally I think the receiving corps are more comparable than the QBs. Burrow would still win the NC with this receiving corp. My hunch is too that Nuss didn't put the extra hours to gel with the receivers. He thought he would coast into this season with 5k passing yards. But overall, the fact that this staff didn't sound the warning bell back in February or March over this OLine travesty deserves all the criticism it is getting.

I know, we need to be able to finish drives and get TDs. But the offense actually did ok this past game; better than ok if you forget "Vandy", and just consider it was on the road against a ranked team.
But the defense was trash that game. I get "not having your A game", but you still need to get SOME stops. This game was basically over the first time we didn't get a TD, because we never slowed them down.
This is kind of where I’m at. 24 points looks rough but the offense only had 8 possessions. 3 points per possession would mean at least 30 points in every other game we’ve played this year. It would have been enough to win on the road against Ole Miss.
It’s not elite, but it’s solid and it’s definitely an improvement. Unfortunately our defense took a step back at the same time. Not having Whit Weeks obviously makes a big difference, but I think the DL injuries stacking up hurt just as much. Especially Gooden.
As for Nussmeier, I think two things can be true:
1. He looked better against Vandy than he has looked the last few games, which makes sense if he’s been dealing with injuries.
2. He still hasn’t improved much (if any) from last year.

LSU needs to strip the concept of special numbers. They are simply one more distraction from focusing on getting the job done.

An injured Nuss and nothing equivalent to the caliber of wide receivers that our previous Heisman winning quarterbacks had?
These WRs often run the wrong routes and showcase butter fingers constantly.
That’s not on Nuss.

Nuss is the only returning 4k passer this season. He can throw the ball. Something changed from last year.
A. His o-line got significantly worse
B. He’s not fully healthy
C. Both
If we have the o-line of last year, our offense is probably light years better.
Also, just soft and it trickles to the rest of the team.. Idc how light Nuss is touched, he always has some dramatic limp or whatever...
But when he does something good, he is leaping 8 feet off the ground regardless of contact
