This. We shouldn't be allowing a new OC to cut his teeth at LSU.

It was a lazy hire by BK, and done in order to keep Sloan from leaving and/or losing Underwood.

I love how tRant can simultaneously criticize Kelly for both:
A) Not promoting Blake Baker from within when he first got here, and
B) Promoting Joe Sloan from within after coaching with him for two years.

I guarantee that if Sloan had left for an OC job elsewhere and had success, tRant would be calling it another failure by Kelly.

I havent been as critical of Sloan. He has had terrible moments of play calling but this is the first game i have really hated what he’s done.

Last game that 4th down option with Jackson was terrible. Hates thendesign. hates the call.

but this game the second half we did a RPR pattern just way too oftenZ

Still, I feel like Nuss made some really bad plays. I do think we could have won if he played smarter.

Exactly. And talk about giving all the momentum to the opposition on their home turf. That had to completely suck the wind out of the defense

Do we? Are they on the same page? Just seems disjointed.

They scored from 8 and 26. And kicks a Fg when they started at the 38.

getting the ball at your own 40 after a blown FG also isn’t a bad situation for an offense.

But the OL is supposed to be the strength of this team and it's underachieving.

yeah I think that’s fair to say they aren’t doing anything in the run game.

it was pretty bad last weekend after what looked like a promising week against Arkansas.

Well, this just proves you don't have a fricking clue.

I’m not saying he’s been great by any means, but I do find some of the criticisms to be comical. Particularly the ones about being “predictable,” or “lack of creativity.”

Take that 4th down call you mentioned with Jackson. Depending on whether it was a blown play by Jackson, it was either a power shovel or a power read shovel with a WR (Thomas) running the shovel part. That’s not predictable at all. I didn’t love the call, regardless of whether Jackson/Nuss fricked it up, because I’m not sure Thomas is the guy you want running power between the tackles. But it’s certainly not vanilla.

Or take the 3rd & 9 against South Carolina, where we caught USCe completely off guard with a draw and Durham took it 26 yards for a TD.

Or the 4th & 5 against Ole Miss from the 23 yard line where instead of just trying to convert to stay alive, we take a shot at the end zone and score to tie the game and set up OT.

None of these calls are what you would expect given the situations.

Hell, even the “tight T” or whatever you want to call it at the goal line against aTm, where we snuck Taylor out to the flats and scored, could fall into the same bucket.

I think far too many people are far too quick to chalk up all unsuccessful plays to “bad calls” while assuming successful plays are “good calls.” There’s really no way to know unless you are rewatching every play, identifying defensive looks, figuring out who might have blown assignments, and so on. The reality is that the vast majority of folks around here (myself included) are simply not capable of making that judgement.

I guess if you haven’t registered before 2010 you can just sit in corner and read the board. No new members ever. What a joke.

I’m not going to absolutely say that it will get better. They will need to make adjustments and find things that work with the missing pieces on offense if those two can’t come back. If they can’t then I think we’ve seen enough to know that they won’t be firing on all cylinders and that might cost them some more games.

My guy, we are sitting at 6-2 with 4 games left. The season is not over yet, let it play out first
