The depth chart is thin and inexperienced at all those spots aside from DT which has 2 all American caliber starters but no proven players behind them. Swinson and Lee are depth pieces that were added. Shand could potentially take the Ali Gaye role. They need more and badly need CBs atleast 2 with experience that can start right now.

Ultimately we had 39 scholarship players this time last year. CBK is an amazing coach but it will take another full season to develop quality depth UGA, Ohio state, Bama have.

We have a RB who played QB and was the leading rusher this year. So there’s that.

Totally agree with this. However, some of your choices for players are iffy. You have a lot of injury history in your choices of transfer players. The staff took a flyer on Sevyn Banks in 2022 and got nothing of substance out of him, I think they go in a different direction this go round.

Catalon has suffered season ending injuries in each season of his college football career.

Flowe has suffered 2 season ending injuries and an injury that held him out for a majority of a season. His movement was adversely affected. Played less than 120 snaps last year when healthy for the majority of the season, but still was not available for 2 games due to injury.

Renfro missed last season due to injury.

and the not injury related, but concerning nonetheless:

OU 247 Article on departing players

"EDGE CLAYTON SMITH (Transfer Portal)

As a freshman in 2021, Smith appeared in four games, logging three tackles and a fumble recovery. Hopes for the Texarkana native were high heading into the 2022 campaign, and he professed his adoration for Brent Venables and the new Oklahoma staff via social media. However, he was supplanted by Thomas by the end of preseason camp, and Smith notched just five tackles across three garbage-time appearances."

Smith was beaten out by a true freshman for the back-up spot on the depth chart at rush linebacker. Being lowered on the depth chart by a noted linebacker coach like Venables raises a huge red flag.

the link below is for the true freshman who beat out Smith for the back up spot at rush linebacker.

Thomas' 247 Profie

As stated in a previous thread, "There is a lot more to look at than what a player was ranked coming out of high school."

Here’s the deal. We can bring an unlimited amount of prospects to get our scholarship number back to 85. You don’t want to go to heavy early so you can reassess what your immediate needs are and to see who is still available now. This is a game of chess.

We don’t have a homerun threat or bell cow. Christ you people expect literal playoff Lenny to be on campus every year

LB is fine. Over the last 7 games LSU played 5 LBs. Four of those 5 LBs are back and neither one of them are Mike Jones who might leave or stay. Add in the 2 LBs from this class gives us 6 LBs. We don't need a lot of LBs, this isn't an Aranda defense.

RB is completely fine even if Emery declares after the bowl game, but who knows

Seniors in Emery, Williams, and Cain, junior in Goodwin, and freshman in Jackson and Holly

DE and Edge are completely fine, the exterior isn't really light, there are 5 guys there, we just don't know how good they are. Smith and Wingo are a duo, when healthy, I put against anybody in the country. Thing is the backups will be Guillory and Lee, two guys who have been in college for 3 years but haven't produced anything. Langston will be a redshirt sophomore as well, hell, he might finally be ready to make serious contributions.

DB
LSU has brought in 4 corners and 3 safeties. If they can bring in one more corner from the portal, they will have completely stacked the cupboard. People need to realize that the transfer portal opens up again right before the summer.

that's a waste.
Josh Williams
Florida 14 car 106 yards 7.57 ypc
Ole Miss 17 car 76 yards 4.47 ypc 1 TD
Bama 7 car 54 yards 7.71 ypc 1 TD
Arkansas 19 car 122 yards 6.42 ypc 1 TD
UGA 6 car 55 yards 9.17 ypc

I really feel like if we feed Williams the ball 15 carries a game, he'll be an All SEC runner. Of course Emery and Goodwin will need to get the ball too. Emery became a great 1-2 punch and is the most versatile RB

Actually, Kelly has all the tools he needs to add as many players as he needs to fill our roster. The numbers excuse is gone. There are no limits on number of signees.

Seems like he's doing that. Glad we have someone to unfrick O's incompetence.

The portal is there…why not take advantage of it and use your recruiting class to build depth. If you have a chance to get talent with a year or two of college level experience and conditioning to fill an unexpected need then do it…and recruit as appropriate when needed to get that player in the program that can develop and learn and even play if & when needed.

We have added two former 5 stars via the portal. They aren’t for depth, jackass. They are instant impact guys with multiple years to play.

at this point, with the transfers that have signed, I dont see any position being thin other than at safety. Doesn't look like we have much there unless we maybe move some of these CB's to safety.

you said kelly would be bringing in nothing but FCS corners and Denver Harris signs. Just shut the frick up lol. Plus you said mark stoops would be coaching LSU.

I don’t have enough down votes to give. What you’re saying is not true and you’re just reading the melters on here. We have plenty at LB, if we’re hitting the portal, it’s only for an upgrade and not depth/ with the transfers, we are now solid, maybe even great, at DL/ and we are literally returning everyone at RB and added two great backs with this freshman class. I’ll let you have DB because we have tons of unproven commodities there, but I’m not overly concerned.
