I mean it goes both ways. BK says he’s hitting the portal hard. How do we know they will be good?

Because he said he was hitting the portal hard doesn’t mean every kid they bring in will be all conference.

There’s nothing anyone will do in life and them bat 1.000. It will NEVER happen. Period.

Look at how much Swinson and Jones improved from 23 to 24. Womack showed no improvement especially for a 2nd year player with his supposed talent. His 23 stats as a freshman - 12 games 6 tackles 1.5 sacks. 24 stats - 8 games 4 tackles 1 sack. He got suspended for Florida game because of lack of effort in Bama game.

I mean you are comparing 4th & 5th year guys to a 2nd year guy. He might be lazy, I'm not arguing that. You are already losing Jones, Swinson, and Shand. Losing Womack is another body you are going to have to replace. Again, I'm not saying losing him is going to kill the team, but it certainly isn't nothing. If you want to ship off every 2nd year player that hasn't produced as much as you want then go for it, but you better have people to replace them as well as everyone else who is leaving.

Paez and Suggs performed above expectations. Hit.
Gilbert was, well, a starter. Hit.
Daniels and Thomas got a ton of action. Hit.
Brown and Ausberry too little to go on but at least played. Undecided.
Ochsendorf and Swann were not good. Miss.

Pretty good portal class if you ask me if your worst was a split time punter and a barely used backup QB.

Let me ask, why do you think Womack will be a legit loss? Because he had a 5* next to his name?

Because he is a guy that was getting playing time and could very well improve over the next two years. Losing 4 of your top 5 defensive ends isn't great. You have to replace them.

Carpenter was getting playing time over him because he doesn’t put in the effort. He didn’t even make the trip to Florida.

(I read all this here, so it’s clearly 2nd hand)

But you want to keep a kid like that on this team? Is he going to change? The word is that he’s been the same way since he got on campus. If he were going to change, he would’ve changed by now.

You are counting Jardin Gilbert as a portal hit?

This is considered a fail when you are talking about portal pieces. Go back to the thread about Brown committing. People thought that he was going to solve one of our CB spots.

In the very last game of the year. Womack was obviously being punished.

I have no idea how lazy Womack is or if he is going to change. But again, we are losing 4 of our top 5 defensive ends and he is one of them. It's another body that was getting PT that you have to replace, while also replacing other guys.

could very well improve

He very well could bust his bad habits and start to work to become what everyone thought he'd be, a great player. People can break bad habits, you're right. But he also could fall further into those habits, become a distraction to the culture Kelly wants and disrupt the team. In either way, he's not our concern anymore.

Good luck to him wherever he lands. I hope your right and he becomes successful because it's a shame to waste the talent he was given.

As much as I’ve criticized BK this year he has managed the portal well. The guys we’ve lost haven’t killed it somewhere while the guys we’ve brought in have mostly been good contributors.

This is a good list but he also had success his first year with JD, Foucha, Frazier, Bernard Converse, and Swinson. I’m sure I’m missing some good ones but he’s hit more than he’s missed.

100%. I have no idea if he will improve or not. My only point is that he is another body that was getting PT at a position of need that we are now going to have to replace. It's different from someone like Rickie Collins who was never going to see the field here.

If you replace him with someone better then it's a moot talking point. But you also have to replace Swinson, Jones, and Shand with guys of equal or better talent as well.

How many of those guys were Kelly recruits? Hughes and Yaites for example were DBs recruited by Kelly. Seems like a shitty evaluator of secondary players.

I brought up not being a rational adult in the OP. You fit the bill here.

So out of the 8-9 players that hit the portal, there are 75+ that are still there and plenty of talent on the squad.

But I’m sure that type of lack of evaluation happens at LSU with Kelly and ONLY LSU

Was before they revamped their recruit the boot campaign and fired Polian. Kelly, of course was complicit. But at least worked to get it right

You have the worst takes on this board my dude.

Gilbert was brought in to start, which he did. All year. Hit.

I don't agree with your opinion that it was the board's opinion that Brown was a savior. In fact we all knew that he was a depth piece in case Alexander wasn't ready to play by season's start.

Post of the Year quality.

I second the sticky, as we are officially in Portal Season.

Boosie must be related to Womack, steady defending him. Keep a cancer instead of moving on because we have to replace him. Great idea
