Jefferson is a senior but he can use his COVID year if he wants

Not based on what is on the LSU website. Played more than 4 games every season prior to this one and if he plays one more this season his eligibility is done barring a medical redshirt.

I think we will just have to let Maason play his way back into game shape.

Maason Smith was able to get in general shape before the season started. He has now had three games and four weeks of practice. He is in game shape by now.

He is also doing a lot better than LSU fans are crediting him. Being at that nose position makes it difficult to record sacks. And Maason isn’t built low enough for that position. Still he is holding his own against most double teams. Every now and then the double gets him on skates, but I attribute that to his high center of gravity.

Doubt Maason return’s considering his injury even though he should.

Sounds like we are getting Shone Washington and Walter Bob from JUCO to start us off for next year

Maason isn’t exactly lighting it up this year. He needs to come back for one year and be a first round pick. He needs lsu as much as we need him

Teams like LSU are going to use lesser teams as the minor leagues.

Let HS recruits develop and break out there, then get them in Free Agency when they can immediately contribute.

Repeat cycle.

HS recruiting is now the NFL draft, essentially

What makes you say that? Smith has a limited body of work at the college level and none of it has been outstanding.

Smith is playing out of position. He will be better playing where he did as a freshman. We saw what he was capable of as a freshman in flashes . He’s not built to play nose. Noses need to be built like vita vea or the big kid from the 2019 team that sat out for covid ,I forgot his name.
He’s supposed to be playing in different spots today so we will see.
If that happens we could get some more pressure on the qb which hasn’t been terrible . Sack numbers aren’t great but we have gotten pressure

Our DL recruiting has been awful losing the top 2 Dl in our state to A&M

You can't lose someone who hasn't signed yet. If we are going throw money at someone why throw it at a guy that will likely leave for the NFL anyway and a guy who transferred here from a lesser program. You take that money and you throw it at them 2 recruits.

“Smith is the better player, but Jefferson is playing better” Uh?
I’m sure every NFL scout is saying let’s draft the better player?
I’m sure this made sense in your head at first.

Going to have to go hard at the portal for DTs this year again. 1 3* committed (yes I'm stargazing) and losing a ton.

I don't know why people are so enamored with Smith.

Right now he is a 5 star bust like Anthony Johnson was.

He needs another year of injury free college play or fall to the 5th round.
