For as many here who are fed up with Paul, there are just as many apologists. We saw the same thing with Les, we were divided on coach O. I think emotion tends to get in the way of performance sometimes. Both good and bad. I fall on the side that Paul sucks, as does Dunn, but there will be the other side apologists that are ok with mediocrity and having pitching staff's that regress and are injured. Looks like Walker is the beneficiary this year of Dunns coaching. He went from a freshman with potential to really bad. Just like we did with Les this will drag on too long and fans will not see eye to eye. I have to think Scott is aware and will make a move....when?

That’s because the apologists here accept mediocrity and/or fear change. They’re comfortable with what we have and fear that change could give us worse results. While there is a chance it could produce worse results, it could also improve. Sometimes change is needed, good or bad and you have to work your way through it. I couldn’t stand Les and wanted him gone long before most. When he was finally fired, I did not think O was the right man for the job but knew change was needed. Look at LSU football now! LSU baseball needs new blood in the coaching staff. We may not get it right the first time but we will know within 3 years. It’s better than 3 years of being just good enough and never winning a title.

You’ve got a handful of guys whose primary passion seems to be baseball and they see themselves as more knowledgeable than people who strongly support other sports as well as baseball.

They think you can’t possibly be as knowledgeable about baseball as they are bc you also follow other sports. It’s a very cliquish little group.

That’s the reason for the divide in this particular case. They don’t receive opinions of “outsiders” bc they see themselves as experts while the rest of us are “sidewalk fans” even though some of us may have actually played college baseball.

If you don’t attend scrimmages or pay to hear Mainieri speak then your opinion is baseless bc you simply don’t understand the strategy of a long season and the nuances of in game management.

After that 3 game skid in 2015 no one was divided. The fan base was ready for Les to leave. It was the governor threatening to reduce the amount of money LSU received academically due to public perception and our current president being a gaping vagina

I agree with all of this.

I have been a passionate, full time baseball fan, for over 20 years, but I am likewise with the other sports. I just love LSU, period. But because I don't make annual threads "breaking down" the roster, or copy and paste recruiting information about baseball, I'm just a bandwagon fan, unless I agree with the baseball "royalty" on this board. It is absolutely a clique type of issue.

We all have opinions, and we're not always going to be right. Some people are almost never right. But there are times when I have stated a straight up fact, and the vitriol erupted from the clique, because they felt that this inconvenient fact was merely the result of a troll, trying to bring down the positivity of the thread, rather than just being an honest statement.

But when I say something positive, I hear crickets. These people only react to what they see as negative, and then accuse you of only posting negative comments, and being an ignorant fake fan.

Arguments can be made for or against Coach Paul. But no matter which side you fall on, it’s hard for me to believe that there’s a lot of people left that wouldn’t agree he’s become stale. The drive seems to be gone and the energy around the program just isn’t what it used to be. The stadium was maybe 1/3 full last night and that had to do with more than the weather and a loss to Nichols. Ten years ago there would have been a massive crowd at the Box on the second Friday night of the season no matter what. I could go on and on about player development and yada yada, but none of that matters because if fans continue to stay home in lieu of going to games, the decision will be made automatically for the powers that be.

Paul is a nice and great guy but this baseball program is stale and needs some new blood.

I think firing judgments are best made in June not February. We have played horribly for the past 2 games, but we have 50 games to be played in the regular season.
