BATON ROUGE – LSU could announce as early as next week its replacement for LSU women’s hoops coach Nikki Fargas and sources have insinuated it will be Kim Mulkey. The bombshell hire would send waves through the sports community, bringing Mulkey home to south Louisiana. Mulkey was born in Tickfaw and attended Louisiana Tech where she was later an assistant coach. Mulkey is the head coach at Baylor. She has coached Baylor to three national titles and won championships as both a player and coach at Louisiana Tech. Fargas, WBRZ has reported, is in line to leave LSU and join the Las Vegas Aces, the city’s WNBA team. She’ll be the organization’s president. Fargas makes about $700,000 at LSU; Mulkey takes home more than $2 million at Baylor. The Advocate, which reported details of the possibility first Friday, called hiring Mulkey “the most significant hire in [Athletic Director Scott Woodward’s] two-year tenure.”

WBB will never be a money maker but Kim will dramatically increase revenue intake if hired and building a winner.

And the publicity given the title IX stuff would be a big win in that area

How much over Geno's $2.4 M will LSU pay? Going $3 M per season?

Waste of money

I mean.. Baylor WBB probably turns a modest profit (I haven't looked it up). I know UCONN WBB makes money. Maybe Mulkey could get us there.

It would be good PR to hire a successful coach for a Title IX sport right now imo.

WBB is never going to be as popular as the big 3, but it couldn't hurt to put some life into the program.

I don't even like women's hoops but I would see this as a net positive.

Field a winning team and LSU team can make money. Woman's gymnastics is a perfect example. They put more people in the PMAC than the men's basketball team.

What are the odds Woodward is dangling a potential future role as AD whenever she is ready to hang up the coaching role?

Anyone with a brain can see this is great news for LSU at a time when LSU is in desperate need of positive news.

We’ll get a million dollars worth of free advertising next week alone if Kim is the hire

Any other hire and I would agree with you. I have made similar comments in the past.

But, Kim Mulkey very well could make LSU women’s basketball profitable. It wasn’t that long ago Pokey had us rolling to almost that point.

Not sure how I would feel about that. Last time we gave the AD position to a high profile coach we ended up with Les frickin Miles.

Not a fan of the news reporting this unless the deal is DONE! Do we have amnesia from our most recent Defensive Coordinator search?

Only half of our mentally handicapped fan base wouldn’t be elated a coach and personality like Kim Mulkey could be coming to LSU

They made $4 million dollars a few years ago. Or are you just being contrarian for shits and giggles?

So that’s how much the scrolling ticker bar on ESPN goes for these days?
