To timlan2057 who says baseball is a "smart person sport."

I've always heard this but don't buy it. I'd argue that there's more nuance/strategy/matchup issues in a single football play or a single basketball possession than there is in an entire baseball game.

The whole "baseball is for intelligent people" argument is just something those people use to justify their allegiance to a very slow sport that's barely more exciting than soccer.

Hell, I'd even move the mound back 6 feet and take a defender off the field to open up hitting lanes.

So your solution to speed up the game is to make the innings last longer because teams will be able to put up madden football numbers?

No Relief Pitcher Warmup Pitches - They are warming up in the bullpen. Do they really need 8 more warmup pitches where they aren't showing their best stuff to potential hitters?

not bad but you need time for the guy to adjust to the new mound.

quote:

Limit catcher visits to the mound - It seems like every 2-3 batters there is a conference at the mound. The pitcher doesn't need a dissertation from the catcher and infielders. Let him pitch. Limit it like coaching visits.

good idea, kinda hope it happens.

quote:

Give the pitcher and catcher ear pieces that the coach can talk into - This way we don't have to go through the exhausting process of coach calling a pitch, catcher relaying it and pitcher accepting it. It would be instant

It's good that the catcher communicate to the pitcher the pitch he wants thrown or the coach wants thrown. That may not really speed up the game that much anyway, Pitchers don't get the ball than almost go immediately to home plate. There is a routine and getting the signal is part of that routine.

quote:

- Foul Outs - At bats with 2 strikes where the batter just keeps fouling it off can get pretty tedious. Once a player gets 2 strikes, give them one more foul and then they are out.

quote:

- Or start with a 1-1 count - Works well in softball leagues to speed up the game

dude this isn't your Church softball league this is college baseball where people pay to go see games, stuff like this is just stupid.

that they should go to a run rule for the first 7 innings, etc.

Run rules isn't a bad idea especially in midweek games.

Well, I believe if college baseball made some significant changes to improve the sport, then it could compete a little better with college football and the final four. Instead, it is in the ballpark of lacrosse and softball.

college baseball is very much a regional sport. Actually MLB baseball is too. Outside of the Dodgers, Red Soxs and Yankees most stadiums struggle to fill their stadiums even on Weekend nights. Nation wide baseball just isn't as popular as Basketball and Football. The simple fact is that they are more exciting sports, we can't ignore that face.

But back to college baseball. Really other than Arkansas LSU MSU and Ole Miss no-one really cares that much about baseball. I remember LSU playing Vandy last year, a huge anticipated series, I don't think Vandy sold out their stadium. Florida also struggles to sell out their stadium. LSU baseball is one of the fan bases that really closely follow their team, and travel to support them. We are one of the few schools that probably has a bigger following of baseball than basketball. EVERYWHERE ELSE basketball gets more attention than baseball, well maybe except Cal State Fullerton.

I'd speed up the game by eliminating all the dead time, not eliminating offense. I'm fine with a long game if there's plenty of action and offense.

And I'm not looking for Madden numbers. But I wouldn't mind a typical baseball score being 9-8.

Exactly. Wouldn't college baseball be better if people actually cared about it outside of a few schools?

Television shows which received the same 0.4 rating as game 2 of the CWS championship series:

Girl Meets World
Friends reruns at 11:30pm on Nick at Night
Chopped
Squidbillies
Flip or Flop on HGTV

This is not a good sign. I am a college baseball fan, but it needs improvement as a spectator sport or networks will cut back on programming.

Number 1 and number 2 make sense and have been proposed in the past. Numbers 3-5 are absurd.

Maybe you need to change the color of your member, then you can play with it while you watch all those throws to 1st and foul balls...

You obviously have never played baseball. Your "ideas" would change the entire game in the most ignorant ways
