I think CJJ will put together a scary lineup and the best outfield in the country. I believe with Milam anchoring the infield and the new transfers/Reaves/Pearson will make for a good infield.

BUT

Will the pitching staff step up? I know we have talent and depth but outside of Evans we do not have any returning pieces that are locks for a starting role. I wouldn't say I am worried, I am more so excited to see who develops into the next guy we can lean on. There are plenty potentials with Rizy and Schmidt at the top of my list.

Who else on the staff do you all see making significant impact?

Couple other huge factors people ignore:
1. If LSU wears the gold jerseys, they get an automatic 2.5 runs per inning because of refraction of sunlight.
2. If the Tiger mascot eats popcorn before the game, the bullpen ERA drops by at least one cryptocurrency.
3. If the wind is blowing in from left field, that means the team is emotionally ready to hit opposite-field dunks.

As for “who else will make a significant impact,” I’d say:
1. Whoever is in charge of turning on the stadium lights. Night games are statistically easier when it isn’t dark.
2. The guy who draws the batter’s box. If he makes it a little bigger with chalk one day, LSU basically gets a larger strike zone and can stand closer to second base while batting.
3. The bullpen catcher, because he catches pitches that don’t even count but still builds momentum in the vibes metric, which I believe is WAR divided by nachos.

Are Reaves and Pearson locks to start at corners?

No sir. The lineups this past weekend did not tell that story. But it is fall ball and plenty things will move around.

There are 3 locks in the field. The rest are slipknots.

IMO, neither is a lock to start. Infield won't be decided till spring and there will probably be some platooning as well.

The starting lineups yesterday... by position

Game 1
C - Arrambide
1B - Yorke
2B - Simpson
3B- Caraway
SS - Milam
LF - Stanfield
CF - Curiel
RF - Brown
DH - Braun

Game 2
C - Serna
1B - Pearson
2B - Reaves
3B- Dardar
SS - Caraway / Clauss
LF - Ruckert
CF - Harden
RF - Braun / Patrick
DH - Clauss / Yamin

On Saturday, the catchers were Serna & Yamin. 1B was Arrambide & Dardar. Tons of movement and they're trying to see who fits where as usual.

In the first game against Southeastern yesterday the starting line up was:

Pitcher: Evan’s
Catcher: Arrambide
1B Yorke
2b Simpson
SS Milam
3B Carraway
LF Stanfield
CF Curiel
RF Brown

I think that lineup gives you a good idea who wouid be your Friday night lineup if the season was starting today. However, there is a long time between now and February 13th.

Evans, Williams/Schmidt, Cowan are likely weekend guys from the jump, but Jay usually makes changes there unless guys just absolutely dominate from February through conference play.

I think Paz ends up as a massive piece. He's been dominate this fall. Grant Fontenot appears to have taken a step. The NDSU lefty has looked pretty good I think. Guidry had a nice inning. A ton of options.

Who are you thinking are the 3 locks? I'd think the OF is locked in, plus Milam. Catcher will be Serna & Arrambide. I don't think I would put any money on who will play 1B, 2B, or 3B at the moment.

The freshman Mason Braun is really making loud contact this fall and exceeded my expectations thus far. Very matured physically from the left side of the plate who should see plenty of at bats at DH assuming Yorke sticks at 1B. I wish they would take more looks at him with 1B to see if he would be a better fit there defensively.

I think in terms of the rotation Sheerin/Scmidt/Williams/Rizy are all "expected" to make some considerable jumps. Noot and Cowan you already know what you have. Guidry is a wildcard.

Cooper Moore is going to be one of those guys you can fit in with almost any situation.

Much like they did a year ago you've got about 7 guys who can get outs consistency. It's how they build the pieces around them.

For some, the baseball talk NEVER stops. And I am thankful for that.
