That’s why I never understood Mullen’s firing. Super premature on floridas part. They barely lost the SECCG in 2020 to a stacked Bama team. Hope they are enjoying bayou billy

Todd Grantham was Mullen's Lou Tepper. Don't forget they let Samford score 42 in a half on them. From the shoe throw to Mullen's firing, they were 2-9 against P5 teams, and one of those wins was Vandy, the other being Tennessee who went 7-6 that year. They were bottoming out quick

I take solace in the fact that the 2020 LSU/Florida game absolutely broke their whole program

This isnt a thing. Overall, Ananda is top 3 best D-coordinators we have had in the past 25 years. When we needed good calls at big times, he gave them

Kyle Pitts ate Derek Stingley alive on the first half.

Not only did Mullen quit recruiting he was openly saying in interviews he wasn’t recruiting either. That’s basically grounds for termination in CFB and I think he’s a solid coach.

Aranda got it figured out toward the end of the season. He was not used to being part of a team that could score so quickly up to that point in his career.
Also, his defense was key to the Auburn win which helped keep the unbeaten season alive.

His firing was his lack of recruiting. If you get Mullen and put a ton of recruiters around him, you'd have an elite program. Yeah, I know the DC hire was bad, but at a program like UF, you fire that guy, make the right choice next time, and keep on trucking.

Mullen didn't much care to recruit. At Mississippi State you can hold out for the filter down recruits who just want to get into the SEC. At Florida, you're expected to compete for the top tier of recruits.

You can hire a top notch recruiting staff around Mullen but I don't think he had enough credibility built up to just play figurehead and be brought in as a closer.

Mullen also did us a major solid that night by pulling red hot Trask and putting in Emery Jones for a series in the second half. Then Trask came back in and threw a pick and we controlled the momentum.

Keep watching. We got 4-5 consecutive stops to close the game out.
