You couldn't have just posted in one of the other six post on this subject?

How do you know Ive never seen him throw the ball in an LSU uniform during the game?

Go to the 2:20 mark and tell me this kid can't throw. I know it's only high school, but his throws are dead on, and the high school field is just as big as the college field.

That being said, I'm not pushing for RS to be the starter, but I agree with the OP's push for RS to replace JJ as the "running" QB.

i'm just going to say this. les miles clearly is honoring some sort of commitment he has made to jefferson and/or possibly his family. it's blatantly obvious that's the case.

It's baffling. Mind numbing. I don't think anyone knows what the commitment to JJ is. My theory is that Miles/Crowton have schemed the whole season already with JJ as QB and don't have the ability to make any changes.

what exactly are we wasting??

We are wasting an elite athlete who has a good enough arm to play QB for LSU and be AT WORST a better running version of Jordan Jefferson.

He was the #1 Dual threat QB coming out of high school for a reason (according to espn he was more explosive runner and better passer than Pryor when he was a senior in Highschool)

The point of the thread is shep at qb would be better than JJ b/c both of their strengths is running, but JJ is such a horrible passer than shep would at worst be a better running version of JJ

think his main problem is lack of size, combined with awful hands. Ideally, he should play WR, but he doesn't catch the ball well enough. So now what?

He catches it as well as TT, and lately has been fine catching the ball.

But we aren't getting it to him in great situations. Crowton runs the bubble screen to him, rather than the jailbreak, for starters.

Wasting Russell Shepard

Who thinks Russell Shepard WANTS to play QB?

He has the skills to make it in the NFL as a WR similar to Percy Harvin.. that is his best bet. I think Shepard prefers to play WR

I disagree. To me, it looks like he has to focus so much just on catching the ball, that he's unable to make a move afterwards. He really looks out of sorts playing WR.

I do agree the bubble screen to him is just awful. Crowton might should be fired for that play alone....we have QBs who aren't very accurate in the base case, throwing a bubble screen to a guy who struggles to catch the ball. Brilliant!

I think this literally every time we do the stupid bubble screen. With the bubble, you give him 8 yards on the sideline to work with. With the jailbreak he's got the whole field. It doesn't make any sense.

So are we "wasting" shepard, or was he overhyped to begin with?

Miles has some really bad luck with signing so many overhyped players.

Shep, Tolliver, the entire O-line, and both QBs, at least were all seriously overrated.

Honestly, the truth is that RS isn't all he was hyped up to be. He's elusive, but not so much faster than everyone else where his speed makes that big of a difference. The fact that our offensive does not run a lot of misdirection (see Auburn's O last week) allows defenses to react quickly to their first instinct.

His best chance at scoring is actually going off tackle on some kind of read option/counter play, but he doesn't have enough meat on his bones to take the physical pounding the number of plays he would have to run each weekend to finally break one of those. And when you have Ridley getting 5-6 yards a carry, why would you want to?

It's just sad after watching that video that we can't find a better way to use his strengths. He was awesome!!

Why not let him try to throw? It can't be worse than what's going on right now!

I was somewhat apathetic, it's obviously not changing, about the whole QB thing before watching that vid but now I feel bad for RS some of those throws looked pretty good and he showed some touch and accuracy, granted those were highlights but still. His arm strength seems a average maybe on par with Herb Tyler(who had a pretty good college career)? There is no doubt that he has a GREAT work ethic e.g. doing one on one work with an ex NFL QB every off season (can't remember the QBs name though) and a great attitude. RS is one hell of a runner and lightning quick would be a MUCH bigger threat to score on any play how could he possibly do any worse at QB than JJ, hell they hardly throw when JJ is in anyway. I don't get it what harm would there be in at least giving him a shot at this point, what is there to lose???? Can't get any worse than what we have seen so far 2 TDs and 8 INTs.

Answer this: Why would Miles personally be recruiting a JUCO QB is he didn't expect him to play immediately barring injury?
Obviously there are a lot of things that the man does that defies explanation. So I do not think that theory is at all out of the question!

The worest that could happen is JL gets hurt again and now our Qbs are both runners, and we're down a WR.

JL is a better passer than Jefferson, but that is not saying much at all. That is like saying a score of 40 on a test is better than a 30.

The same coach that is "teaching" Jefferson and Lee how to throw would also be the coach "teaching" Shepard.

Just something to keep in mind

True and as a result maybe RS would be just as inept as JJ at passing but at least it would show they were trying to find something to resolve the offenses issues rather than the same old thing, and RS would be a bigger running threat
