Was the "targeting" call against the LSU defender called correctly?

I am sure this has been discussed but damn, I did not think he led with his helmet or that the QB took more than 1 step after he threw the ball. The suspension for the 1st half of the Syracuse game is a joke. They need to rethink this rule. In this case, to me it should not apply. What sayethududes?

He lead with the shoulder which I think was fine. But I think he left his feet just enough to let the refs jump all over it. He stays running on his feet it would have been fine.

He wanted to take his head off. Good call.

it was very borderline and i don't say that as an LSU fan

he took like 1 step, maybe, after the ball was released

I don't think you have to lead with the head to be considered targeting. He led with his shoulder, but it was a high hit on the QB.

Fortunately, next week's opponent is Syracuse and not Bama, Ole Miss or aTm.

Yes. He launched and hit the QB square in the earhole.

Gonna get you tossed every time.

It was the right call, but it is a shitty rule. Something similar happened in the Texas-Cal game.

It was an easy call. Tough lesson to learn, but this was the right time to reinforce that lesson.

It was pretty late and in the open. Those 2 factors always add to the perception of "targeting". Danielson immediately and correctly called it an ejection. There was no defense for how it unfolded. Tough break, but it was high.

Right call. Tough result of hard nosed physical football.

There was a time when football was a contact sport.

It has little to do with being a late hit. He went too high and lead with his shoulder. The QB could have been holding the ball and it still would have been an ejection.
