Disagree that the Clemson play was the same as the A&M play. The Aggie starts to tuck the ball and turn up field when it is dislodged. The Clemson player was never able to tuck the ball or turn up field. I wouldn't even describe what he did as taking three steps. He got his left foot down, then his right foot, and then his left foot with the ball firmly in his hands. He really didn't move very far during that process. I would argue that the Aggie did make a football move, but it's more debatable with the Clemson player. Yes, if the Clemson player was going out of bounds or in the end zone that would have been a catch, so the rule for a catch with the ball still in play on the field probably needs to be rewritten.

The amount of time you have a ball is absolutely irrelevant.

Should have been ruled a catch with forward progress since the DB was pushing the WR backwards.

Doesn’t need to “bring it in”. He can hold the ball at arms length as long as he wants. Happens all the time and ruled catches

The rule states:
Maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc

Do you "advance" when you take a step?

Is taking steps while holding the ball an action "common to the game"?

Anyone who thinks this is not a catch is a fricking idiot

The problem is not the initial call.

The problem is that it was overturned.

On the field it was called a fumble. It went to replay. What evidence ON REPLAY proved conclusively that the call on the field was incorrect?

Answer: None. Call should have stayed.

Personally I have a REALLY HARD TIME calling something where the guy has it secured and takes THREE STEPS anything but a catch. The ball doesn't bobble. Three steps should nullify any need for a "football move".

I look at it this way, had that been near the goal line and, while taking those steps he crossed before losing the ball, it would have been ruled a TD. Same goes for the sideline, had he went out before dropping the ball, it would have been ruled a catch and spotted where he went out. Just my opinion.

Not sure how many people know this, all booth reviews are viewed from many angles in real time. They are not allowed to use slow motion in the review.
