Ranters have been saying this for weeks now. And yet, LSU has to win one of the next two games while home at The Box to make it to Omaha.

We’ve been able to make the hits when we’ve needed them at home. It’s a valid concern if we make it to Omaha though, because we didn’t look much different at a neutral site in the SECT than we have on the road.

He was not near as good as I expected, but that’s probably because I’m use to SEC pitching. He was getting inside calls and throwing a lot of balls. Tigers could have had a few more walks off him if not for swinging at ball 4.

Why not a Tom Glavine?

I think Maddux was the best in terms of controlling placement and keeping batters guessing despite having an average (at best) fastball.

Came into the game with 100K and a 3.00 ERA in a power 4 league. His stuff didn’t wow but the kid can clearly pitch. He melted down in the heat.

LSU will see him again if this series goes into tomorrow.

Sure. but the “we can’t hit” crowd needs to realized that in the last two games, LSU is averaging 13 runs. If we run into a great arm in Omaha, it won’t be a shock if we get held down. We know what this team is. No use crying over it week after week while this team keeps winning. Every other team still playing has holes as well.

Is Maddux left handed?

Tom Glavine had a hall of fame career pitching nearly the same style ad Greg Maddux, much of the odd heads on the same, great team.

Just say this West Virginia kid is a Tom Glaivine-type pitcher. It works.

I agree with you there. The hand-wringing and chants of “we suck at the plate” in the 2nd inning of every game are weak and ridiculous. But so are a large number of the posters here, so….

The NCAA needs to step up enforcement of these performance-enhancing ethereal beings.

You feel free to say that.

When I think of a control pitcher who doesn't throw very hard, I think of Maddux, so I went with a left-handed Maddux.

I think most people think of Maddux when they think of that type of pitcher, at least most people my age.

I remember watching many LSU games when Skip was the coach, there were a lot of games where it took a couple of at bats for the bats to get going.People forget the opponents have talent too.

The "can't hit" crowd was and is just a little misguided. LSU has been hitting the ball consistently during the last 2 months, but has struggled to get those timely hits that they got yesterday.

For example, against USC, they lost because they only scored 5 runs on 11 hits - LSU tripled that output on fewer hits yesterday.

They miss or ignore the context that the problem is a lot worse on the road than at home. We have also tended to start slow at the plate other than the two run rule games vs UT and Arkansas.

We also had Milam and Curiel in major slumps along with Bear and Braswell at the end of SEC play. They are both back to business at the plate and Bear has at least started showing signs of life in the last two games.

Well, divine guidance for your arm is a definite advantage.

I believe the heat played a big factor with both teams starting pitcher. Anderson gave up way more than normal.Having sweaty palms and being drained by the heat tooks it toll.

The ump was giving the inside strike. At least a full baseball off the plate. It’s very difficult to hit when the ump is calling that a strike.

We adjusted by moving closer to the plate. They hit multiple batters. Stopped coming inside and started to walk multiple batters. Finally threw strikes and we crushed it.

Sometimes you need to figure out the zone first. Especially when there is an ump with an odd zone.
This may be the answer.

I was at an outdoor bar with two dogs constantly untangling them so I missed some action, but sounds reasonable.

I agree about the 2nd inning, but we were in the 4th with one out before our first hit of the game against a guy that’s not considered one of the top pitchers in the nation.

We had 15 at bats before getting a hit. That’s not good.

He had some stuff. He owned the inside corner until LSU moved in to the plate and then 5 HBP and he lost command of the SZ. Something he can learn from.
