Can't blame NIL, every team under the same conditions. This is on BK.
It’s also the new transfer portal. That allowed mass exodus gutting the team after 2021 down to 30 something players. Would have never happened under the old portal rules. The foundation was destroyed.

You sure about that? Before NIL Kirby had a roster that could run over anyone they played. 2 years after it was introduced UGA’s clear advantage in talent has been noticeably reduced.
Big money schools starting to roll. As an LSU fan you think you hate NIL now, give it a few more years. You ain’t seen nothing yet.

There is simply no buy in, no attention to detail, no energy, no competitive drive.
And these are apparently Brian Kelly's strengths as a head coach

BK is good at doing it with High School Recruits. The secondary is 80% transfers (basically mercenaries). BK’s strengths don’t apply here.

But performances like Saturday night are indicative of a failed program.
This is simply not true.

This is what worries me. And even more worrying is that lots of LSU fans have their head in the sand about it. The early indications are there of a major shift underway - all you need to do is take the purple & gold sunglasses off and look around. We are not a rich market, and we have little to no corporate presence, etc. It is not a good situation at all.

That statement sums it up. NFL small market teams have the salary cap with contracts. Small market college teams have none of that with with this NIL nightmare.

That is true of the defense until proven otherwise. Kelly had better get in gear as the heater in his seat is now on.

Disagree, most schools don't have the deep pockets that some schools do.

quote:You can see it coming. The team will fall apart. There are simply too few good players. There is too little good coaching. Too many negatives. Sure, we will get a few yards and score some points. But when you cant stop the run, cant stop the pass, kicking game is average..you cant overcome that.
The team has not failed if the only the Defense is horrid, and you have no idea how things will transpire in the upcoming weeks.

This is a criticism?

Just an observation - only a top 5 class when transfers are taken into account.
But, it seems that the recruiting services tend to have problems with their rankings of portal players (at least the ones we get). Maybe that’s because some of them play at smaller schools, aren’t getting playing time at larger schools, or something else. Or maybe because the portal is such a new thing

Whatever formula or method they use to rank them just doesn’t seem to work as well as their methods for high school players. And their methods for ranking high schoolers has never been perfect

Why would you not include the portal players?
Being critical of Kelly is fine but let’s also be fair.

Because obviously, despite already having college experience, they pan out (relative to their rankings) at a lower rate. Hence why I said their ranking system for transfers is more flawed than their high school rankings.
Players that sit the bench or are from smaller schools with less competition (minus someone like Jared Verse) are just very hard to rate.
Just like Kelly said, the lifeblood of a program is its high school recruiting, and I think that the 2 rankings are and should be separate until the services can find a way to evaluate.
Plus, losing good players to the portal (Tolan) offsets some of the higher ranked transfers from the portal from programs and conferences that are inferior (Speights)

I have a fear that NIL is going to hurt LSU. We don't have the money to compete with Texas oil money. I think a few years from now there will be the same few teams winning a natty each year. The teams who can outbid everyone else. Louisiana doesn't have that kind of money. We've got ambulance chasers.
Sadly, college football will need an NIL salary cap to level the playing field. But that is years from now. Afraid we may have dark days ahead.
