There is a God afterall!
Verne Lundquist, the voice of the SEC ON CBS since 2000, has decided to step down from his lead college football role at CBS Sports following the 2016 season. Lundquist, who is celebrating his 53rd year in television, will continue calling regular-season college basketball, the NCAA Tournament and golf, including the Masters® and the PGA Championship for the Network.
Brad Nessler will succeed Lundquist as the lead play-by-play announcer for the SEC ON CBS, joining lead analyst Gary Danielson and reporter Allie LaForce beginning with the 2017 season. Additionally, Nessler will begin calling select SEC games this season in the weeks that CBS Sports broadcasts two SEC football games, as well as the 2016 Hyundai Sun Bowl and select college basketball games. The announcements were made today by Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports.

I thought he has done a good job. You try working til your in your 60's with the same amount of fire, time he put in to make a CBS game special.

He certainly hasn't been looking well the past couple of seasons.

I honestly don't get the hate for this guy. I get that it's the cool thing to do around here.
Is he the best? No, but he's not nearly as bad as he is made out to be here.

Its fun picking on Gary and Vern but they are actually pretty good.

Maybe it's a perceived hate. Maybe because it merely seems like all those years of listening to him it sounded like he was biased.
I don't "hate" anyone. But is it merely perception or does he project it that way? Intentional or otherwise.

Come on, if you guys cannot hear his Alabama bias in his games, then I feel sorry for you. He is unbearable to listen to when he is calling Alabama games.

I think Verne is great, and the duo of Verne and Danielson are the best.
Verne gets the Tiger Stadium mystique.

Only thing worse was Florida with Tebow.
For two years I refused to watch a Florida game on CBS. It was rediculous.

He was amazing in his prime. I get SOME of the hate, but he's still good even though he doesn't have his fastball anymore. Butchering the names like "Trindon Holloway" and his irrational need to say "Louisiana State University" after every big LSU play drives me nuts.
I am not a Danielson fan, however. He's immersed himself in the region, but I am of the opinion that an SEC player who knows SEC culture should be doing the color on the premier broadcast of the week.
The thing that I find hilarious, however, is that a lot of people here who hate Verne the most are the same people who have a hissy fit if you criticize Jim Hawthorne or ANY LSU coach. Hypocrisy at its finest. You can't criticize authority figures I like, but I can criticize the ones I don't like. I mean, he's called Super Bowls (his call of Jackie Smith's dropped TD is iconic) and he was the announcer for America's Team in his prime. What makes you think you can do better, RIGHT?

Oh, I hear it. I hear it "Lima Charlie". But I was giving others the benefit of the doubt.
It wasn't only me. When you sit with Bammers (because that's where I live)..and THEY SAY he's biased against LSU during a LSU/Bama game...well..there you go. Perception or Projection?

I hate that 5-chinned piece of Bama flank

That's not me. There's been many a time I've looked at a radio after Hawthorne said something and then looked at my Dad and said, "Did he just butcher that, or was I hearing things?"
Coaches? They all deserve criticism.
But to take a line out of my ole man's playbook, "I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone".
Not saying VL wasn't a great announcer. He is and still is, but I'm ready for someone new.

Is your old man really unable to use the adjective "prejudiced"?
