of bye weeks? He was talking playoffs and as long as USC has 3 bye weeks there can be no uniform schedule to determine playoff participants

Someone needs to tell the Utah senator to stop trying to mess with things he has no business messing with. College football does not need government intervention.

that is 1 step of NUMEROUS things to assist (not guarantee) more scheduling equality in college football, but it isn't just USC
college football isn't set up for schedule equality, whih is 1 reason a playoff suggestion is down right fricking stupid

How about having them play the same number of decent teams... including a "real" Top5 opponent in a conference championship game.
ETA: Of course, even with those advantages, they STILL can't make the BCSNCG so I take back everything I said.

This is nothing more than regional bias toward the SEC. If Pac 10 or Big 10 was winning every year, the BCS would be just fine.

I like college football just the way it is.

are you guys really this fricking stupid? USC gets an "extra" bye week because the Pac 10 doesn't have a championship game, and they choose to play the last week of the regular season. They also don't get the revenue generated by a championship game, the exposure of one, and the chance to catapult themselves into the BCSNG that one provides. Without the SECCG, LSU would have all of zero BCS NCs. If you'd rather have an extra bye week than a championship game, then you're buttfrick stupid.

it is just fine right now
there will always be media sources who play devils advocate...espn seems to bash it a ton, BUT watch how much that decreases next year when ESPN is broadcasting the BCS
last year there was media talk of too many teams in NBA playoffs, this year they talked of expanding NFL playoffs
the BCS has proven to be a much better selector than the NFL's playoffs over the same time frame, just look at this year as a perfect example
in a leage where parody is promoted and scheduling equality is something sought after and pursued by the league
Arizon playing for the title being 1 game over .500 and having gone 2-4 in their last 6 games of the regular season
and
New England being left out of the playoffs after going 11-5 and the Eagles, Vikings, Cardinals and Chargers all got in with worse records.

Excellent post, Carl.
I'm a major fan of the SEC CG and the BCS.

Politicians would rather "play around" with sports issues, than "work on" the REAL problems that we face. Now someone can direct me to the Poli Board.

If there is one thing I would like to see the government get involved in it is college football.
All of you anti-playoff people are just blinded by your love of LSU. The system has worked out in our favor a few times, so you support the system to add validity to our championships. If we had been the team with an identical record that got left out any year, you would all be crying about how unfair a two-team playoff is. Just imagine, close your eyes and really think about how you would feel if it had been LSU, and not Auburn, that went undefeated in 2004 and never even had the chance to compete for a championship. Not a person on this board would support a two-team playoff if the shoe were ever on the other foot.

Nothing will come of this, the guy is from Utah and I am sure everyone in Utah is pissed they didn't get a shot in the NCG this year. This senator is taking advantage of that and making sure he gets elected again.

Maybe, maybe not but I don't think many people would be interested in seeing us play the schedule we play, endure the schedule fatigue we endure, and then have to go play 2-3 other games.
