I still say the loudest moment I ever heard TS was pregame Ohio State 1987.

Florida 07 was one of the most intense games start to finish ever.

I was on the field for Ole Miss when Bert Jones hit Brad Davis for the win in 1972. Awestruck for a 12 year old.

Does anyone have the link to the video when the different players are talking about playing in Death Valley? That was always my favorite.

My ear drums were actually hurting after the UGA 03 game like after a loud concert. It was constant volume from 1st quarter to 4th - ear drum rattling loud. And forget the person next to you hearing what you said, even if you yelled in his ear.

Florida 07 was nowhere near as loud
That's a tough comparison. I was at both games and both games were amazing. I still think Florida 07 beats UGA because the noise level attained when the USC score was announced I have never heard before, and it was a night game. Don't get me wrong UGA 03' was crazy but UF 07' edges it out in my opinion. I will never forget how loud it got vs UGA when DJ Shockley stepped on the field, or how loud it got when USC lost.

Sitting in the student section for lsu vs uga 2003 was absolutely electric. I can still picture the TD from Mauck to Green...after devery returned the kickoff to midfield. It was the absolute loudest I've ever heard TS.

2009 FL and 2008 and 2010 Bama were the two loudest I've personally been to.

It got to the point where I couldn't even hear myself think

The loudest the stadium has gotten since 07 was when we blocked the field goal against Bama in 08. Complete insanity...then Jlee.

Can you imagine if that blocked FG had been caught out of the air and returned for a TD ?
Jeezum they would have had to rebuild TS

I believe that Derry Beckwith is the one who picked up the ball after the block. If he would have reacted instantly instead of celebrating then reacting to the ball, he may have had a slight chance to take that thing to the house.

For me:

1. USC 1979 (my last semester) - ears rang for almost a week.

2. UF 1997 - ears rang for 2 days

Comparison guide:

a) second row at a concert by The Who (3 days of ears ringing)
b) first row of a Gino Vanelli concert (girlfriend in 1978 made me go with her) 2 days ears ringing

I think the standard sentiment is that TS is more inconsistent now than "then." There are a several factors involved:
1) More games on TV now. "Then" you had to be inside TS to see the Tigers play.
2) More big games in the afternoon (again, thanks to TV). In all likelihood, had today's TV deals been in place the great games of the 70's (ND in '71, OM in '72, USC in '79) would have been afternoon games (I know, makes you want to barf just thinking of this).
3) More "corporate" fans now. Many don't know how or when to cheer.
4) Just a guess here but I don't know if this generation of fans realize the storied tradition of Sat night in TS.
5) Success breeds higher expectations. The degree of special today is greater than "then." IOW, it takes more to excite fans today than then.

Just some rambling thoughts. But to be sure, TS can be as special now as ever.

I remember that one too. It was definitely the loudest COIN TOSS ever when Andolsek (RIP) and Speilman were about to fight.

Another 80s classic noise game no one has mentioned was the Washington 1983 game. They were #4 and supposedly had this great team. The crowd knew before the game started that their players had never heard anything like TS at night. Needless to say, the 83,000+ in attendance made sure the Huskies would be miserable and we beat the crap out of them 41-14.

This was also the last game that an unlimited number of students could get in the game FREE by just showing a student ID (my, how times have changed). My sister (sorry, no pics) was a student and said she was never in a real seat the entire game. There were about 5,000 bodies without a real seat since the stadium capacity was 78,000. The entire SS would just move as a whole in different directions - absolutely crazy. I was there but on the west lower 40.

Not sure about pre-game, but that was my loudest game.
