They looked pretty fast against Bama without him.

Anyway, wouldn't that statement be like, "LSU would not have won the SEC CG last year without Perilloux."

or, "Fla. would not be as good without Tebow."

Now how about this? Bama and Ga. will struggle next year with new, young QB's.

Both the Magician and the Chief know how to use speed: wait till next year and the next year, and the next year!

We will be getting faster and faster the next few years.

You beat me to it. I think in retrospect, Percy has always been the scary one (though Tebow gets the edge near the goal line or on 3rd and short).

yes, UF has plenty of speed on offense, Demps, Rainey, Harvin, etc...But what stands out to me, is how FAST they are on defense compared to everyone else..every player flies to the ball, rushes, covers all out..maybe it's bc they lack confusion on defense, and know/trust the system. i look forward to chevis bringin this to the table in years to come!

Well, I think it's a fair point to make that Miles and company have not utilized the talent to its full potential thus far.

Yes,and Miles was not outcoached in 2006 when we dropped the ball on the goalline. Florida did not have less talent than LSU in any of these matchups.

That being said, Meyer is pretty amazing with that crazy double pitch option offense.

I thought he was the Wizard.

And about TH, I'm not sure if he's as good a football player as Demps, Rainey and Harvin. He has their speed, but maybe not their vision? Those UF guys always seem to find the crease, or wait for their blocks to set up and then accelerate through. TH seems to get the ball and run as fast as possible, hoping he can get through or get to the corner.

UF is scary good because of Tebow......the speed helps but Tebow is the reason they win.

I hope that sucker leaves......

yet they make us look rather slow
I was there this year, and I honestly did not think they made us look "slow", but they did make us look completely clueless. I didn't see them so much outrunning guys for big plays, but rather running to places where we simply didn't have anybody. We'd have 3-4 guys occupying running lanes on the right side, and their RB would be running around the left side into wide open space.

I was also at the LSU-UF game last year, and they decidedly did not make us look slow then.

The thing my brother and I were noting in last night's game was how quickly Florida's defense would recover from mistakes. That was the most impressive feature of Florida speed that I've noticed. When their DBs would get beat underneath, or their LBs would fall for a fake, what appeared to be a huge hole would close up almost immediately. I don't know if that's great coaching or great speed, but I strongly suspect it is both.

Look guys, speed is VERY important. But if you can't remember your routes, catch the ball thrown to you, not drop punts kicked into your hands, and break tackles like Harvin, James, and etc, all that speed is like X man. Gets in the opens and drops passes.

You have to combine speed with other attributes, and have enough speedy guys out there to keep the pressure up on their competition.

Sure, coaching has a lot to do with developing attributes, but they can't work miracles.

As I attempted to point out earlier in this thread, Meyer didn't do such a great job utilizing "the fastest high school player ever":

quote:

J. Demps 9 23 2.6 0 11

9 carries for 23 yards... he just kept running Demps into the teeth of the OU defense over and over.

seems like when they beat us they embarrass us

when we win it usually is down to the wire at home

One of the main reasons UF is where they are is because of what Meyer said in your comment.
That could also be a big part of the reason they were 9-4 last year.

Meyer clearly is an elite coach. But his methods are hardly infallible, and though he was certainly more successful this year his methods have not consistently produced results much superior to Miles'. This year clearly put him in the lead, but it will take time for the level of performance we had this season to be anything other than an anomaly.

you mean the 3rd or 4th fastest player on that team

they have 2 kids who have Trindon-like speed and Demps may be faster

they have half a dozen kids who run faster than anyone else on LSU's roster aside from Trindon

they are faster

Their LBs are their secret

Spikes and Doe are sensational run-stoppers and pass-defenders because they are fast and athletic... both are always all over the field
