In 2007 and 2010, both years Miles "out-coached" Urban, UF was in complete rebuild mode and starting brand new defenses/teams with patchwork unproven freshmen. Both games were close and couldve gone either way. Not taking anything away from lsu, yall won on Saturday and were the better team. Oh how one bounce of the ball changed everything, and everybody's tune

In 2008, the only year that Meyer really "outcoached" Miles, LSU was in complete rebuild mode and starting brand new defenses/teams with patchwork unproven players.

I wouldn't really say Meyer outcoached miles in 2008

I do not agree with this. Worst coach in CFB?? Au contraire mon ami....take a look out west in New Mexico/Wash St....et al...you really think he's the worst in CFB? Worse than the Vandy coach?

Couldn't you hear my sarcasm there? My point was that there is just a slight difference in record between a guy that everyone considers one of the top two minds in college football and one that everyone ridicules incessantly as someone who doesn't know what he is doing. And this is about as close to an apples to apples comparison as you can get since it's the same conference over the exact same time frame and the two teams play each other every year.

It's just funny to me. It shows you how stupid the pundits are. They don't know anything about anything (as I've discussed in other threads in the past).

I wonder what would have happened if Sam Montgomery and Will Blackwell hadn't been injured and Perriloux wouldn't have gotten booted early.

Montgomery, no factor. Blackwell, would have helped. Perriloux, we would have won by 3 TD's.

didn't hear anyone mention anything during the broadcast.
Then you did not watch the broadcast, they mentioned before the game his ribs, thumb, shoulder and then later in game it was reported he had 4 broken ribs.

FYI - While looking this up, I noticed that Nick Saban has never been at any one place longer than he was at LSU (five years) in his entire career as an assistant or head coach. I thought that was somewhat remarkable for a career that started in 1975 at Kent State (I didn't include his two years as a GA at Kent State). That's a 35 year career with no more than four years anywhere except LSU.

Math fail?

Michigan State 5 years
1995
1996
1997
1998
1999

LSU 5 years
2000
2001
2002
2003
2004

Michigan State DC- 5 years
1983
1984
1985
1986
1987

Just for the record, I dont think Miles or Meyer have been at the same place for more than 5 years (until now) either...

edited to say, Miles was at UM as an OL coach for longer, my bad.

Sports culture often reflects "real life" and vice-versa. Nick Saban is no different than many workers in our day and time. The days of employees working one place for 30 years are over, for the most part. It saddens me, stability is a good thing.

It's the same in sports. Expectations are ridiculously high all over the "landscape." Coaches are hired and fired every year, coaches leave for more money, like most of us would, more control in decision-making. In the real world, we're encouraged when we see a better opportunity and move on, anyway.

I think most sports fans wouldn't like this, but we all do it. Since 1989 when I joined the workforce, I've had five different employers. That's not to say that I up and left, but when better jobs came open I went for them. I know in sports, we want "loyalty" from players, coaches and organizations, until they lose, then we want rid of them.

Urban Meyer (second best coach in college football) record at Florida: 61-12 (34-10)

Les Miles (worst coach in college football) record at LSU over the exact same time frame: 57-15 (30-13)

Urban Meyer is 3.5 games better than Miles over six seasons. He is light years better.

The key piece to all this is that Florida had Tebow and LSU had Perriloux . . . and we all know how that turned out.

This, plus Meyer was a popular pick as coach. Nobody had even heard of Les Miles before he was hired and his hire was viewed as a cheap one because Bertman said he wasn't spending x amount of dollars on a coach.

I'm not so sure you can jump to the conclusion that Les is better than Urban just because he won the 6th meeting between the two.

Urban has more wins AND more championships.

What is hurting Florida the most right now (and is rarely mentioned) is that the head coach of the opposing team in the next home game for Florida isn't wearing Orange and Blue. It's IMO one of the reasons we're not 3 for 4 in NC's over the last 4 years.

This is an insightful thread, I thought about this (the 6 year thing) after realizing that one of "the best coaches in college football" just got outcoached by the "bumbling fool"

No way you go for the block when a) the field goal [and a 52 yarder at that] does not lose the gmae for you and b) miles is so unpredictable but one of the things he has shown to do in the past is gamble, and run fakes.

So you send the house instead of maybe watching for the one play that could cost you the game?

The field goal only ties and sends to overtime. I know Jasper is money but a 52 yard field goal is tough.

I totally agree. I KNEW it was a fake. I was like, NO WAY he kicks it. It's GOT to be a fake.

Another call I disagree with was I would've taken a safety and kicked the ball to LSU right before the half. Sure, they get two points, but we take a lead into halftime with us getting the ball to start the 2nd half.

Turns out, if they would have done that, UF wins this game. (Provided LSU doesn't score with under a minute to go in the 1st half.)

For some around here there will always be an excuse as to why LSU or Les Miles doesn't "deserve" a particular win.

Urban is breaking in new QB...and new D

It takes time to replace Tebow

Fact of life

Good QB makes Coaches look like genius

Bad QB play makes them all look over-paid
