Updated #2 today 12/28/23
Warning: long read but wanted to lay out all details… maybe this will get stickied.
Below I have accounted for all of the scholarship players that are eligible to be on the team in 2024 (minus Malik and BT). Counting all signees from today and portal players, our current number is at *91. Obviously attrition has to happen unless BK has figured a “grey shirt” work around by providing NIL deals for players to pay their own way.
This first list is all players from the 2023 Roster that DO NOT have eligibility remaining
Seniors out of Eligibility
1. Jayden Daniels
2. Noah Cain
3. John Emery
4. Jordan Jefferson
5. Ovie Oghoufu
6. Greg Brooks Jr
7. Omar Speights
8. Andre Sam
9. Jay Bramblett
Declare for Draft
1. Malik Nabers
2. Brian Thomas
this next list of is all players that have entered the transfer portal

The last list is the 2024 Potential Roster including all players with eligibility remaining (currently at *91 total players)
*note: the number after the player’s year indicates how many years of cfb for each player… ex, Kyren Lacy SR (5) - indicating his 5th season of cfb

Thanks for doing this.

Offense is set it seems. I don’t see how we don’t take a transfer CB and DT.

Our 4 that we’ll roll out if Smith is 100% healthy should be really good, but after they leave it gets extremely concerning.
To the OP’s list on scholarship guys, you have to imagine that some attrition comes at OL, WR, and maybe a couple others?
Man I never thought I would say we will have natural attrition at OL because we’re so loaded lol.

Yeah I’d guess Charles Turner and Myles Frazier are going pro. Mason Lunsford walked on senior day (I was at the A&M game). That would be 3 gone.
Not sure if you’d have any attrition from the WR group, unless someone is hitting the portal, but you’d think they would’ve by now.

Assuming they get McKinley, Echols, and Bussey, you have to have 10 leave off that list.

Exactly. Really interested to see what happens.
Charles Turner, Myles Frazier, Mason Lunsford, Paris Shand, and Jalen Lee all walked on Senior Day, so maybe they will be gone, but that’s only 5. Got a feeling some players will be hitting the portal late, probably not on their own decision
Unless BK has figured out a grey shirt work around… I mean who’s to say an in-state guy doesn’t just “walk on” on his own, pay his own way, and get signed an NIL deal that covers those cost for him….. or guys like Maason Smith, Nuss, Harold Perkins “give up” their scholarship and pay their own way with their NIL.
Who’s to say a player can’t “voluntarily” be a walk on

Plus other transfers in, assuming there are any.
I would have to imagine the Kelly knows or has a really good idea where he's at with pro declarations plus any other transfers out. I don't know how the numbers are for the bowl, but I have noticed that it's typically one out, one in... almost as if it was done that way with intent.

We are going to be really young next year too. Kelly explicitly said at his press conference today the plan is to rebuild through recruits. I count 39 RS FR and FR. 46% of the roster.

Super seniors don't count against the 85 limit.
Edit: as poster below said those players do count against the limit

That’s okay. That’s how you should do it. Ole Miss is going all in now, but they don’t have the $$$ to sustain landing the #1 portal class every year. Unless you have tons of $$$$ for NIL, your goal should be to sign as many freshman as possible each year. Every year, no matter what you are going to lose players to the portal. Just work on retention and development and hopefully we get to a point where you have to cut current players for better incoming freshman.

Where did you find this information? I knew that was the case for baseball but never heard this for football

quote:that’s interesting. Is this the first year we may have a #’s problem. Nice. I count 90 since I’m figuring 2 DBs that may not be with the team. I’m assuming this staff has it figured out

If I am not mistaken, Kelly mentioned something along the lines of Duce Chestnut and Denver Harris not having a path forward with the team.
Someone posted this week that Harris was practicing, so maybe he lost his scholarship?

He said they are not playing in the bowl game and would be evaluated after this semester. Denver was practicing the other day though….. have them added for now but yes it’s a fluid situation. Duce may be hitting the portal in May to be a graduate transfer but not really sure. Denver very well may stay on the team but taken off scholarship, but there’s no telling with those 2 bozos lol. For now I’ve got everyone eligible on the list until we hear something official

Hearing Khai Prean is moving to DB. My guess is Carpenter will move to DT.

I thought Emery might be eligible for another year b/c of the injury?

Don't teams have to allocate NIL money for recruits as well?
