Does Vegas do odds on this kind of thing? I feel like it is something that would draw a lot of bets.

I think both are great choices. Players can improve tremendously during one offseason (mettenburger for example), so I think it's fair to say well see improvement from all of our players, not just welter. He's the voice of the defense, so giving him #18 isn't a far stretch. Magee is a guy whose gave his all to lsu. He's waited for his time to shine, and deserves the spot light on his last year. He's a great model for our younger players to look up to. My favorite part about his and is that he always sends praise to God. His helmet even carries his favorite bible verse in it. Whichever way they go, I'll support the decision of who wears what. Because at the end of the day, it's still a Purple and Gold jersey!

As someone stated earlier, I would love to see Magee get #18 simply because he has been such an unselfish team player. He has moved from running back to receiver, then back to running back & never complained (at least not publicly).

By the way, D.J Welter is a MF'n LSU TIGER. He was a highly ranked player that chose to come to LSU over several other programs. Any true Tiger fan should admire that fact and support him. Coaches jobs are at stake over wins & losses & if Welter is a libility/risk for losing games, he will not start. If Beckwith knows the playbook & is better than Welter, he will start. Bottom line.

I think Welter will be fine. But this nonsense where every time someone criticizes the kid you dissect his comment 5 ways with the single "well you aren't his conjoined twin and can't read his mind so you can't possibly know anything about him" argument is just silly.

It's funny the incessive welter bashing never seems to bother you.

Nice try. I've defended him on this board countless times. Your schtick is tired.

$10 says that that doesn't affect him at all.

What is wrong wih punching holes into a stupid statement?

If you say (write) something you have to be prepared to back it up. Tell us how you arrived at this conclusion and what are your qualifications. Why is that such an irritant?
If you say that he is the worst player ever and should never see the field, I'd like for you to share your thoughts other than just repeating what someone else told you.

Well I think Welter is an adequate player who will either start or be in the rotation, just to get that out of the way. However you don't punch holes in a stupid argument, you just take the stance that "Well you don't know (Argument A) with 100% certainty so it must be (Argument B)". That's not a great thing to do.

Ok, it seems like we go through this every year, but here is the rule and the reason why an O-lineman will never wear #18.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. I've seen people just give a blanket statement that linemen can't wear #s outside the range, but hadn't seen the cite to the actual rule.

Agree on the new tradition with linemen.

I just want to know why they are making the statement. What great insight do they have?

On the other hand bashing a player or coach just because it makes one feel empowered is a better thing to do?

If freaking Richard Murphy can wear it, then I'm pretty sure welter can, just saying. It goes to a leader, not to the best player on the field . Apparently magee and welter are both respected leaders on the team,so either one would be a great choice .
