I stand corrected. Former 18s, coaches and staff. Or at least I stand partially corrected. Nonetheless, my point remains. There is no one source.

My vote would certainly be La'el

La'el can't have it. OL can't have numbers in the teens

Kickoff coverage (Welter) and kick returns (Magee) would they really be on the field at the same time?

All in for 2 18's

If Welter gets 18, the legacy dies.

One of our relatively worst players in the past 10 years gets this award? I guess I misunderstood the meaning of this award? This dude gets in trouble and is punished for an entire year, plays terribly at his position, but gets recognized?

I am always unsure whether a offensive lineman can't have singles or teens. The NCAA rule book "strongly recommends" certain numbers for some positions, including offensive line.

LINK

Rule 1 Section 4 Article 1 recommends numbering as follows for offensive players;

Backs 1–49
Center 50–59
Guard 60–69
Tackle 70–79
End 80–99

"Strongly recommend" is different than "shall" or other mandatory language. And it's clear that other players at skill positions don't abide by their guidelines: (ie Dupre is #15, Beckham was 3, etc.)

Like I said, I don't know. There may be some other rule I don't know about, but I think it would be cool for Collins to get #18.

Can everyone as a whole just support the guy, and see how the year plays out.

They are not just giving the spot/job the Welter, he has earned it.

Everyone already knows on here Welter is the worst player on the team, does nothing and will never do anything to contribute, and the coaches just play him because he is white and older. He doesn't run a 4.3 and is not 6'4 265, and does not have the potential to be a 1st round draft pick like all of the other LBs behind him. But for some reason our coaching staff, for that one position has no idea what they are doing. Sound about right?

Based on my experience here, no. Certain people will implode if he does well. Reminds me of Karnell Hatcher. Even when he played decent, it was only when he appeared to make a mistake and everyone jumped on him.

I implore you to watch replays of the games and see just how bad he did play. These few decent plays do not overshadow almost complete ineptitude at the position. Hatcher was a liability in the defense. Hopefully Welter can change that stigma about him unlike Hatcher never could.

Me arguing about my sources would be me coming across as douchey so I let it be.

Here are his sources in his bio.

Went to school with Lamar Louis, Quentin Thomas, Travin Dural and Kavarha Holmes.

I don't like the idea of two 18's. In my opinion, that would devalue the tradition.

98 is an eligible number, so any ball handler can wear it, even if it is unusual for a QB. Linemen cannot wear numbers outside of 50-79. Collins cannot and will not wear #18.

I don't really care about 18 but if they give it to Welter the whole fricking thing is a joke.
