I think it is definitely a toss-up between Auburn and Alabama, but personally, I hate the fricking existence of Auburn. Especially since that jack wagon Tuberville smoked cigars and stomped on the eye of the tiger on our field, I hate them so damn much.

I can't wait until they have to vacate the BCS title!

And they said a night game at LSU is even worse too. And well, from all my time spending with SEC fans I was actually planning a trip down there and wanted to catch a few games. But in my mind, I easily wrote off any future LSU visits only because of hearing all this from the other SEC fans about you.

You come down to a game wearing your own colors (or anything other than Red, Maroon, or Orange), and you'll be treated just fine. If you go, go for an SEC game. There is no comparison to ANY out of conference game, even if it is a big time team playing. LSU fans love the idea that other fans are scared of the place, so we have no problem perpetuating the rumors, but in reality, most are not true.

to OOC teams, they are very inviting.

Usually because we know we can beat them, and theres no SEC implications on the line, but mostly because we know we're gonna win.(ask Va tech, WVU, App St.)

The SEC and the state of Alabama. SEC caters to the 2 schools.

LSU, unlike most SEC/southern schools, DOES NOT have a single two-way/mutual rival.

LSU, however, DOES have the most probably the most overall rivalry factor of any other school.

Auburn, Florida and Bama are currently the biggest, as each and every year we play anywhere from 1 to all 3 of these for SEC title implications.

Ole Miss is traditional and their is true 2-way hate, but Ole Miss lags the implications of the Auburn/Florida and Bama status, so it is not at that level these modern days, but is notable.

Tulane is a thing of the past. Miss St is Miss St. Forget these two...

Arky is a second tier rival, as there is more dislike than vitriol, however it ranks because there is so much on the line when the game occurs, and Arky has played big time spoiler the last few years and has Petrino now, so it is notable, but not major.

Texam A&M would probably be the biggest consistent rivalry is the 2 schools returned to annually playing one another, but since they do not, it is only theoretical, yet would be among the nations biggest if it is ever restored.

One point has been brought out though that I do not get. A few have said your biggest rival is yourself. Can any explain to me how that is or why, or what in the world you mean by that?

We always have extremely high expectations for LSU in football. When another team beats us (which really should never happen), it's not that they were better than us. Instead it's that we did not play up to our potential and/or made mistakes (...or we got fricked by the refs). Thus, the only team that can beat LSU and the only team that has ever beaten LSU ... is LSU.

If you come back here after LSU loses a game (which hopefully won't be until 2014 or so). you'll find LSU fans dissecting every facet of the game and calling out players and coaches that didn't have good games/seasons while other LSU fans fight back and defend those players. So, the fans that drive us crazy before and after games is really LSU fans.

So if you took a poll, here's what I think the answers would be (and they are all LSU)

What coach did you like the least last year?
Gary Crowton
What coach made you the most angry at some point last year?
Les Miles
What player made you the most angry at some point last year?
Jordan Jefferson
What teams fans got you the most angry at some point last year?
LSU fans

In short, being an LSU fan is love/hate relationship because the level of passion and dedication is so ridiculously high. It's like being madly in love with a woman that cheats on you every so often. You know you'll never leave her, but she just breaks your heart over and over. ...We really need to just stop losing.

If I had to list one school, Id have to say Bama. Even though it's not a true rivalry like Bama/Auburn, it's as close as we have at the moment.

However, if you ask the older folks, it is OlePiss hands down. I have heard conversations between my uncles, who are church deacons and Shriners and such, utter some of the worst profanities and hate toward OlePiss that I have ever heard. Apparently back in their day it was the only game that mattered. Even now, if we lose to OlePiss, that is the last LSU game many of my uncles will watch the rest of the year. It is an ingrained hate that I have never fully understood but have come to accept.

btw, get ready to be TigerBaited in Dallas!!!!!!

Actually Tulane was out most heated rivalry for many decades, followed by Ole Miss, but today, I don't know- Bama? Auburn? The problem is, we are not going to be the biggest rival of Ole Miss, Bama or Auburn because of their state connections. Same goes with Texas A&M if they ever joined the SEC, Texas would still be their biggest rival. Now in the case of Arkansas, you would think this could potentially be our biggest rival, since they do not have another in-state rival. We battle for the 'boot' every year, but I just don't see the fans (either way) of playing this up to being a huge rivalry.

it depends. i would say:
from 1920's until early fifties ...tulane no question.

from mid-fifties until late 70's ...ole miss no
question.

from early eighties until present...auburn and
alabama ...with alabama emerging as the major
rival in early 2000's

it's my opinion that auburn and alabama will
remain lsu major rivals as long as current division schedule remains.

I think you find that with any fan base.

Where Tiger fans differ is after a WIN. Some fans will still insist on berating players and coaches.

I swear sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between a win and a loss judging by the LSU fans.

If I had to pick just one, it would be Auburn. Games are usually close and hard fought.

After I posted, I almost went back and edited to mention this. Winning is apparently not sufficient. The win must also be convincing and satisfying.

We don't exactly have that 'rival' that everyone in the country knows about.
And there aren't exactly any schools in the SEC (outside of Ole Miss) that would put us at the top of their list of rivals.
This is part of the answer but to get a better idea you need to understand this; that of the fans of the eight conference opponents that LSU plays every year, all eight of them would list LSU as one of their top three games of the year. The same can probably be said of Alabama, Florida, UGA and Auburn currently. To go a step further I think it safe to assume that all four of LSU's nonconference opponents would typically put them in the top two to three games of their seasons. So LSU is one of just a handful of teams in America where every single opponent they face, year in and out, has their contest circled either one, two or three, depending on the given year. So in essence, I see the Tigers as being the virtual, secondary rival of the entire SEC.

None. We don’t have one.

Let’s put it in the same terms the OP did: if Ole Miss beats LSU and loses every other game that year, that is considered some measure of success. Bama could salvage a lousy season by winning the Iron Bowl. Whoever is sober enough to realize they won will always remember winning the Cocktail Party.

LSU doesn’t have a game like this. You beat Arkansas? So what? Ole Miss? Good, you’re supposed to. Bama? OK, that’s better, because it usually means we’re in contention for the West. But winning one game for LSU means just that – winning one game. We don’t live to beat one other school, we live to beat everybody.

I think individual fans, as you can see from this thread, have their individual hatreds. Personally, I hope Auburn’s campus burns to the ground (slight exaggeration). I hate those bastards. My mom? Not so much. She hates Tennessee for the 1959 season. LSU doesn’t get up for one opponent, we get up for all of them.

Traditionally its been Ole Miss even if their lack of recent success has put a dimmer on the rivalry. However there was a time when an LSU/Ole Miss game usually matched up two top ten teams.

I for one look forward to those years when the Rebels field a competitive team because it renews the game's interest.
