WC had 7 false start penalties, nearly one per game.
7 penalties in 12 games is nearly one per game?

We were 104th in rushing last year
You think we couldn’t run the ball last year because the offensive line was unmotivated?

Do you think running a zone read with a pocket QB had a significant part in our struggles to run the ball last year?

Last year’s guys were NFL-caliber talents, but they seemed unmotivated and sluggish at times.
You sure it didn't have anything to do with DJ Chester being the lowest graded center in division 1 football last year?

The problem with last year was completely and totally at the center position
Not true. It was the bulk of the problem, but tight end blocking killed more than a few run plays.

unfortunately the key position on the line in college, (not the left tackle like everyone thinks)
While I agree the center is more important than most realize, I think unit cohesiveness is the key to line play. The center plays the biggest part in that, and at all levels. If they all suck, they will suck less if they are all on the same page. A line with very good players will look elite with great communication and cohesive play; the center will be the key to great communication.
I think the reason the left tackle is considered so critical (thus valuable) is that he has to contain the edge rusher and protect the blind side of the QB. The more your team relies on passing, the more value is placed on the LT.

The OL has a lot of unproven talent. It’s now up to Brad and Alex to coach them into a high performing unit who can both pass/run block.
Brad has shown he can recruit but has yet to show he can coach. Last years OL was one sided and had no physical grit to get those 2-3yards in the RZ or tough 3rd and 2s to sustain drives. It’s time to put up or shut up Brad!

I think by the end of the year yes I agree. I'm more worried about early on.

Lmao no. It’s because he’s basically saying we couldn’t run block last year because our offensive linemen didn’t care. And he’s saying this year’s offensive line is going to be a strength of the team, just because they aren’t the guys from last year and will try harder. It’s dumb.

A better word for it may be complacency. There was no competition for spots on the OL last season, even at Center where we had to replace someone. Complacency is just a natural human reaction to not having to compete every day for your position.
Do experienced position groups overcome this in college football? Sure. Can anyone say our OL last year did? I don’t see how that’s possible, especially when looking at how they were all viewed in the draft. I think that’s on the players and on Davis for not figuring out how to motivate them beyond where they performed as run blockers.
One positive this year is that no one across the OL seems to be guaranteed anything. They are going to have to compete all year to hold a spot. We don’t have the overall talent and experience, but that competition should at least ensure we get the most effort possible out of all 5 guys at all times.
I’ll also say this- Davis did a much better job of molding a young, inexperienced OL in 22 than he did developing and motivating a very experienced group last season. Hopefully he has that same success this season with this brand new OL that could end up having multiple moving parts. .

No way to know yet. Talented group, but they will have growing pains. This sounds like pre-season sunshine pumping, but better than bring too negative.
Don't think last year's issues were motivation or sluggishness. We had a combination of using zones reads with a QB that always threw the ball, poor run play calling (especially 2nd down), and mostly poor center play. Kaleb Jackson's struggles were also a problem - he was given opportunities on a good number of running plays that were consistent failures.
I think Chester will be solid as a guard, and haven't given up on Jackson. Durham is going to be a beast day 1 this year, so Jackson will have to make the most with his opportunites.

You are probably right on TE I saw some incredible wiffs there too, but I was typically too busy watching the defense shoot right up the middle.
You can’t do shite on offense if you have lbers etc shooting right through the middle untouched. It’s just math, the fastest path between two points being a straight line. It’s particularly difficult for a pocket passer like Nuss.
Drew Brees, another pocket passer is another good example and why the Saints in their heyday always had excellent guards and a solid center. He could typically feel pressure or see it from outside and dump the ball off to sproles or someone but if was right up the middle he was typically sacked.

So he was unmotivated and every false start was his fault. How in the world did he get drafted so high?

I would take that "struggled" word with a grain of salt. This could end up being one of the best Dlines in the country as well as one of the best defenses. It will take a little time for the Oline to gel but they are definitely going against a very talented Dline. Will be prepared for any Dlinethey face this season in the long run.

It’s definitely the offseason
Every single year. The potential weakness could be our best strength
This team will surprise
Don’t see any holes in the lineup
17-0

Unpopular opinion: OL will be one of the strengths of the team this year by cbree88
Why would this be considered an unpopular opinion????
Every single LSU fan desperately wants this to be true.
If the OL is a strength, this team is going really far. National Championship far.
