No, its plausible. Back then clemson and ohio st wouldnt have been moved from 1 and 2 in the polls. Voters are more willing to do it these days. But back then, voters didnt do that to team that started out higher.

Model has OU at 5 where they should be. Don't know how Utah got pushed ahead of them.

The whole point is to remove the human element and use a sound and proven algorithm computed by microchips to determine the best teams using FACTS and NUMBERS.
ok fine, please let me know what that algorithm is. Because it doesn’t exist.

When people talk about the "BCS" or "computers" they are referring to the early version that didnt use the same 'humans' that rely on the same 'eye test' that the CFP Committee does.

this. It was good, but after USC was left out they ruined it by making it mostly dependent on human polls.

LSU jumped from 7 to 2 in 2007 after the conference championship weekend

Yes but my understanding is the early versions leaned much more heavily on the formula instead of the polls.

That's kind of my point. They need to develop one. A good one. That's extremely complex in deep. The more metrics they use the more accurate the results will be. If they want a committee they can use a committee to develop the values of the metrics in conjunction with statisticians and programmers.

I mean, this isn't perfect but surely its far preferable to 13 people huddled up in a room somewhere watching games on a laptop and picking their favorite teams.

Clemson wouldn’t have to the wins to move to #2. Especially since LSU and OSU would have beaten top 10 teams and Clemson beat a team they were favored by 28 to beat anyway.
