A lot of people wrote him off earlier in the season and doubted his commitment to getting in shape and to the program

He came on stronger late in the season and played well when we needed him most in the Fiesta bowl with both Fehoko and Alexander not playing

Hope he can continue to improve and be a force next year

Shelvin did indeed play well, but LSU controlling the ball on offense for 3/4 of the game helped him, and the rest of the defense, a lot.

He still needs to shed some more weight and get in better shape, but it's up to him how much of a force he wants to be. He can easily play himself onto an NFL roster spot with a little more effort.

He manned up in that game when needed most. Props to him and hope next year he balls out.

Shelvin can move for a big man but definitely needs to shed some weight to be a full time nose guard or tackle the SEC. Glad he stayed and glad he is a tiger.

We were down to a 6 man rotation on the DL with at least one 18 year old and a converted OL for the Bowl Game. While yes, Shelvin did play, let’s pump the brakes a bit on this narrative.

Players can move up the depth chart due to hard work and dedication. Or attrition and perseverance. In the case of Shelvin it was obviously the latter.

With Fehoko and Lawrence set to return along with Logan and Farrell, Shelvin will be a third year player whose focus will be to stay in the two deep depth chart on the DL and avoid being passed up by younger players.

He is far from a finished product nor is he poised for a breakout based on past behavior.

I’m not bashing the kid. I’m just dying to apply the proper perspective and context to his playing time during the back half of the year.

Glad to see him play. He needs to discipline himself and get into top condition in order to increase quickness and stamina. This is true for other OL and DL as well.

For all intents and purpose, next year is a "contract year" for the young man if he wants to cash in at the next level.

Fehoko, Lawrence, Logan and Farrell are all SDE's...Shelvin, Livingston and Ika are the only NT's we'll have next season.

He's in a great spot and just needs to keep doing what he's been doing.

My maturity level from age 18-20 was like night and day...hopefully the light has come on and he keeps pushing. He could be the top or one of the top NT's in the SEC next season, if he wants to be.

By the way, this would be awesome line depth to have:

Fehoko Shelvin Lawrence
Logan Livingston Farrell
Cotton Ika Sopsher

He still has a way to go in conditioning but he is playable now. He needs to drop some more weight and increase his mobility. He did a good job holding his ground and stopping up the middle but plays were running by him. Fortunately he had 40 and 6 behind him cleaning up.

I was pleased though. My comments are the difference in being good and being great.

Logan is gonna be locked in as a starter, as will Lawrence.

Fehoko can play both DE and DT
Shelvin
Ika

Nice rotation there

Something happened early in the season where it seems he got into Coach O's doghouse. But Shelvin took it well and when he did get on the field, he played well. Hopefully the lights are now on and he's our returning starting NT with Alexander leaving. I think he will really improve and be a very good player in '19.

I'm hoping we can keep Fehoko on the outside at DE and keep a yuge wrecking ball like Shelvin in the middle.

Obviously a line of Logan Fehoko Lawrence is good, but we weren't as successful this year as we thought we'd be without having a true NT in the middle. Alexander fit the bill while he was in there, for the most part, but then we'd lose like 30-40lbs on the rotation in moving Fehoko into the middle when Alexander went out.

Agree. I’m also hoping Jenkins or Justin a Thomas can provide quality reps next year.

Yeah, me too...it's time for Thomas to put the work in the off season to be able to contribute.

Jenkins and Cotton should be coming along shortly. I'm especially excited about Cotton...I think he's going to be a stud for us.
