Kirby going to take a $9M pay cut?
i dunno details

Im only relaying what ive been told.

That would be even dumber than when Saban left for the pros considering the money involved and that Kirby has one multiple titles already and is always a contender.

Like I said if he does leave for the NFL that will say more about the state of College football than anything else. There have been rumblings that Coaches hate the landscape of College football right now and would prefer to be in the NFL so we will see more Coaches leave College and Coach in the NFL. It hasn't happened yet but those rumblings have been out there the last several years.

I totally agree with you. Seemed weird him being in the mix for the NFL.

I agree that more coaches will WANT to be in the NFL but the NFL has its own pool of coaches and assistants so only some college coaches will be afforded the opportubity to move up.

You know how much money follows a natty? The kids are being paid milllions because winning is worth 100s of millions.

It’s why coaches are making tens or 100s of millions as well. And why tv contacts are worth billions.

What? LSU is not netting 100's of millions for winning a natty in football nor are they getting anywhere close to "billions" for TV contracts. Nor are these players worth anywhere close to what they are getting paid. It's absolutely ridiculous that they aren't tied to performance as well

Multi-year contracts with buyout clauses and/or 1 year contracts with a binding right of first refusal clause would calm a lot of this crap down.
There's no turning back at this point imo. The reason players are getting paid now is due to lawsuits not because the NCAA decided to be nice and share the $. If courts ruled in favor of players getting paid, there won't be a legal way to limit their contracts or earning potential imo. Crazy times....

The players' worth is what a school is willing to pay them, not an amount you think is reasonable. Like any other free market, the value is determined by those doing the buying/selling.

Absolutely not and you are part of the dumbasses that head the NCAA. There is zero reason an 18 yr old that hasn't played a down should be making 10x more than a professional athlete fighting for a roster spot and their future. Their worth should be tied to their performance like every other job

Sorry. This is America. Take your communist notions to North Korea.

look, I'm a hard core capitalist and free market guy, but that doesn't work in sports leagues. It's why most pro leagues have a salary cap.

If you just let the big money teams buy all the good players, competition across the league suffers. And competition is crucial to a sports league's survival.

So a sports league really can't be a true free market.

Most people understand this.

I'm not against a salary cap. For years, I've repeatedly and consistently posted on this board in favor of a salary cap.

One of the biggest problems with MLB is that there is no parity. The Pirates will never be able to compete with the Dodgers.

But the salary cap needs to be negotiated with the players. I cannot support a uniform salary for all players. I cannot support a salary cap that is imposed from above, particularly when it is done without regard to the market. I cannot support an arbitrary a salary like $100,000.

Let the players (union) and teams bargain to determine the salary cap and how it will be allocated.

That's free market baby.
