Same reason some ULL and Tech people hate LSU. Penis envy.

I have never met a Tech person that rooted against LSU.

In fact, I’d say that most “Tech” people are straight up LSU fans that went to Tech for educational reasons.

I root for Tech for this reason. Good people.

WRONG

Tulane beat LSU 3 out of 4 times in the 80’s

It was still a rivalry til the mid 90’s when it ended, when Tulane stopped being competitive

I wish we still played them and beat them every year.

They had a big celebration in their stadium last Saturday. They lost the game but they honored the 1973 team that had the biggest win in the history of the program. It must have been a big thrill for the handful of people there who were old enough to know what it was all about.

I'd say closer to 50....

Closer to like 70 years

LSU's all time record Vs Tulane
70-22-6

Through 1952
27-18-5

!952-present
43-4-1

Tulane fans remind me of the fans from the "rich" schools from hs, they act real aloof and snobbish and seem to really not care much about the game itself, just the party at the country club later, when we would play one particular school and be beating the crap out of them they would start chanting "that's alright, that's okay, you're going to work for us someday!"

There are very few Tulane fans in New Orleans these days. The vast majority of college football fans in New Orleans are LSU fans.

This has changed a lot since the 70's and 80's when it was closer to 50/50 IMO.

they didn't beat us much but it always seemed to be at an inopportune time when I was at LSU we still played them every year but it wasn't near as big of a deal to us as it was to them, our home games were played on Friday after Thanksgiving in an empty stadium, we'd go down to the Super Dome for their home games just for the party and would almost pack the place with LSU people, they don't show up for their games and never have

ETA: it wasn't as big of a deal to the fans but the players took it pretty seriously, they hated Tulane and vice versa

No, as someone who also works with multiple Tulane alumni, the above description of Tulane fans is accurate.

My uncle is the same way. The dude knows jackshit about sports in general and we were at dinner the night before the Clemson natty and he was bragging about Tulane beating LSU back to back in 81-82. I said that's cute and kind of sad that it will never happen again and he got all pissed off at me.

You should hear how ULL fans talk.

I know I'm old but, many people south of I-10 used to have Notre Dame as a favorite team with Tulane or SLI, USL, ULaLa in second place. They prayed for Notre Dame victories.

Two of those 4 games were during weak LSU season 7-5 1979 & 3-7-1 1981
The others

1973 when LSU lost to Bama, then Tulane then lost in the Orange Bowl to #6 Penn State. Not sure how much the Tulane loss impacted LSU (really just not sure)

1982 when LSU beat #11 Bama then lost by 3 to unranked Miss State, then curb stomped #7 Florida State, the lost to by 3 to unranked Tulane, then lost in the Orange Bowl to #3 Nebraska by 1.

ETA: Corrected transposition error on 79 record, thanks 777Tiger.
