Tubs was a good coach--those boosters responsible for ousting him, IMO, are the real problem at Auburn--NOT Tubs.
Bingo!
There is a strong opinion among many (inside and outside the Auburn nation) that Coach Tuberville's firing has its roots in the "Jetgate" incident. The powerful people who tried (and failed) to oust him back then are more concerned about exacting revenge than the success of the program. When he was winning and beating Alabama, they couldn't touch him. But the 7-5 season and 36-0 loss in the Iron Bowl was what they have been waiting for to get rid of him.
Coach Bryant once told his fellow coaches "don't worry about making friends; concentrate on winning; if you win, your enemies can't hurt you; if you lose, your friends can't help you" (paraphrased). That seems to be true in Coach Tuberville's case.

We'll see what happens next year. Tubbs was the only coach that can win with the shitty talent at Auburn.
There is a good chance that both Auburn and Tennessee could go winless in SEC play next year - both undervalue their coaching staffs and wanted change for changes sake.
I also think Alleva is way smarter than the other AD's in the SEC.

One must look no further than this week's SECCG for why so many SEC HCs have been jettisoned and others on short leashes.
Despite being graded primarily on their own bodies of work, SEC HCs must answer to their ADs, whom see an Urban Meyer looking for his 2nd BCS title in just 4 years in the SEC-East. Nick Saban looking for his 2nd BCS title in his 7th SEC-West season, and at his second school, of which he won it all in his 4th at LSU, and is contending for another in just his 2nd at Bama.
Fulmer's shortcomings versus Fla & UGa buried him, that and a sub-mendoza SEC mark over these last three years. Tubby despite one-for-the-thumb, has been owned by Saban in-state since arriving, and even with a win over NS last year, the handwriting was on the wall, and all Aubies were getting nervous.
Then there is LSU's two recent BCS crystals, which has it's hand in so many SEC-West HC changes, as schools are forced to make moves as to attempt gain some momentum in recruiting, and to get HCs that have a clean slate(Dooley? Leach?) or even competetive ones versus LSU/Miles(Nutt, Saban, Petrino)..
Saban and Meyer are considered top five HCs in all of NCAA Footballdom..with Carroll, Stoops, Brown, Tressell,etc..choose your five.

ok so lets say miles do go 7-5 next year. If we fire a coach 2 years removed from a national championship and he had winning seasons in those 2 years, do you actually think we could attract a top tier coach?

if miles were to be fired next year if our record was 7-5 i wouid question who was really making the decisions at lsu.

If you think that double talk Miles uses when he addresses the public is endearing himself to the fans or the boosters then you are confused as well. Another year of mediocrity and folks will be wondering why the ticket prices are so high.

That really depends on whether it was 7-5 disaster like it was this year, or a competitive 7-5...If we're still talking this time next year about what a poorly coached shitty team we've got, than Les needs to go..The money LSU is able to pay, and being in the SEC will always allow LSU to attain a top coach.

skillet 7-5 is 7-5 i dont give a shite how you spin it. it has come to the point at lsu that this is below expectation.

I agree, 7-5 would completely suck, but if the 5 losses are competitive games, Miles won't be in trouble of losing his job next year. Another 7-5 the year after, and he's definitely gone.

Tubs situation has always been on the skids when that whole deal went down with petrino at UL a few years back this shouldn't come as a surprise. look how long the Alabama progam has been in the crapper 6 coaches and ten years later they have a good season. Auburn will be fine tubbs is better off for getting away from that place.

I'm not an Auburn fan but firing Tubs after some pretty successful years was a bold statement and probably rocked Les Miles world. Another mediocre year at LSU and Miles is exactly where Tubby is now.
Dude the situation is totally different. The powers that be at Auburn don't like Tubby and have wanted him gone since 03. They were looking for any excuse to get rid of him.
Unlike most of the rantards on this board, the people that matter at LSU have a great relationship with Les and respect what he's done here.

What has he done to make you think that? Just asking? Not being sarcastic for once.

quote:I think the Saban factor has the Auburn world unnerved. Seeing the return of Alabama, they fear being pushed back into the sidelines of football in that state. Instead of thinking that Tubbs has had a decent record versus Saban, they are looking beyond to the overall record at Alabama this year. And instead of taking the long view, they want the instant. So very short-sighted, IMO. Wrong of them. Just wrong.

Tideidiot: Miles won a national championship

Yeah Jawja I agree with you. I wasn't saying what Auburn did was right, but the fact remains that Auburn hasn't wanted TT around for whatever reason in a very long time.

without a doubt, in the event that Les didn't already feel the heat, the fire is blazen now. I don't think Les has taken anything for granted, but the writing is on the wall. I know we aren't AU, but the same will happen with another mediocre year.
Spot on dude.
This really all bodes well for us. Les likely makes a couple of good hires now. 2 Perenial powers in the SEC should have down years next year: Tenn and AU. So we just need to take care of business with Fla. @ home. Truly I think Miles rebounds big next year.

I'd agree it puts ANY college football coach in the state of mind where they must win and win often....or it's curtains for them!
Auburn shot themselves in the foot if they indeed forced Tubby out the door....I've heard it was a mutual agreement.

quote:Never forget what LSU did to Charles Y. McClendon. Very similar situation. Would be like FSU firing Bobby Bowden. Or Auburn firing TT. Beware alumni power when things aren't going the best.
I hope LSU NEVER acts that irrationally. Tubs was a good coach--those boosters responsible for ousting him, IMO, are the real problem at Auburn--NOT Tubs.
