I'm not an Auburn fan but firing Tubs after some pretty successful years was a bold statement and probably rocked Les Miles world. Another mediocre year at LSU and Miles is exactly where Tubby is now.

Not quite. Mile's success in the SEC in his 4 years here is a better body of work then Tubby's accomplishments in 9 years at Auburn. LSU was also competitive against Bama this year and should have won the game, had Jarrett Lee been half competent.

I don't think we're quite in that situation yet. Next year will settle plenty of arguments.

He's absolutely right. If Miles doesn't address the problems and LSU goes 7-5 next year, I think that Miles is gone.

Too much talent to have the record we have. The sad thing is, next year, we really could go 7-5. The schedule is brutal - much worse than this year. Even with our QB problems, we should not have gone less that 9-3. Miles got his pass this year, unfortunately.

Tubby did have an undefeated season. He's been great until this year.

To me the big difference is Miles is recruiting really well right now and Tubby was getting mashed.

I think our schedule is pretty favorable next year actually. We get Bama an Ole Miss on the road with UGA.

But with Stafford and Moreno possibly leaving, that game could be a win.

Plus, if we had gone 9-3 this year, folks would not feel so bad about next year.

Yeah, he did. They did get screwed and would have played USC better than that embarrassing performance OU displayed. Their following year they played well and almost made it to Atlanta again, but after that up to this season they just weren't the same. They were still winning games and still had chances for great finishes, but they flaked out at the worst times which led to underachieving seasons, and now this clusterfrick.

The difference is that Tubs partially build and more importantly sustained that program for an extended period of time.

Be it fair or not, the impression was that Miles was coasting on Saban's success from the start, and oddly enough the team falls apart about when all of Saban recruits are gone. I am not saying the two are connected, but that is what it looks like on the outside to those that "predicted" such a thing all along. If he rebounds from the bad year to have more strong runs, winning the SEC, NC, etc, he is golden.

But if he has a second consecutive weak year, then he is at the very least on a burning seat if he isn't fired.

Lester Earl knew he was F*cked when he hired two Dc's. guess it was his way to assure his future absence.

last year our talent totally bailed us out of soooo many games it wasn't even funny. sit down and reflect on our victories without shaking your head. How pissed was I before the half against UTenn when our staff just watched our qb waste the entire 2-minute drill and get no points only to get saved by some talented defensive play in the second half (Beckwith/Zenon). Miles' coaching has always been suspect, and I have referred to him as a "lineman turned coach"...don't get me wrong, I can back up some loyalty with a yearly contribution, but NOBODY gets paid top 5 money without the expectation to be a top 5 program.

I just hope this is the same case as OU. They didn't do too well in 2005-2006, but they immediately reverted back to their old form ever since and barely anyone remembers that season now.

Yeah. Senior leadership bailed us out of alot of potentially back-breaking losses in 2005-2006, and last year due to being outcoached. 2006-2007 not so much because we crush and killed pretty much everyone except Ole Miss, which is another good example of your point.

Correct and wrong on certain points.

While I agree, if Miles has another 5 loss season next year he will be on the hot seat; I disagree that Tub's firing will have any impact on Miles here. If anything, I think it shows horrible management of a difficult situation by Auburn. I hope LSU NEVER acts that irrationally. Tubs was a good coach--those boosters responsible for ousting him, IMO, are the real problem at Auburn--NOT Tubs.

+1

A lot of you want to attach feelings to the concept, but you need to understand that it is more and more about $ every day.
While we love our school and we have feeling for it, the football program is the # 1 source of revenues.
It is a business which is affected by the following:
If football is down, so are:

Ticket Sales
Bowl Revenues
Alumni Donations

Winning cures all.

As it has been said,
when you are winning your enemies can not hurt you.
When you are losing, your friends can not help you.

I think that seat would explode,
the first weak year was completely due to his Co-Defensive scheme and the peripherals that it produced.
