Why not at this point?

Please Gawd don’t let us keep a back and TE in the protection….doing the EXACT opposite of the Joe Brady offense.

87 is only serviceable as a pass catcher and 80 is better at that. So I say just throw out 11 personnel unless you put 205lb 80 in and just let him try.

It’s a wasted play almost every time

Hines can probably run block better than Shannahan

They have tried Hines at C in the past. Evidently had a hard time snapping the ball.

I remember a running play where 87 was the lockout block, but instead of sealing the alley, he got rocked right back into the hole, mucking up the whole play.

I can’t remember the play but I think it was a run to the left with kiner I believe.

Pretty sure their responsibilities go a little deeper than that

I’d sacrifice 1-2 bad snaps for not getting destroyed up the middle

It’s kind of the most important thing a center does.

Turner was the one that couldn't snap the ball
Not Hines

They tried Hines as well. I was trying to be nice, but evidently his arse and legs were too big and he really struggled. This along with Turner throwing back screwballs got Shanahan to campus to play center

When those snaps turn into turnovers or show up on 3rd down, then what?

Hines has been absolutely horrible. Why would he succeed at C? They need to replace him completely along with Shanahan

Guess a quick analysis would be:

Hines would hold his own for 1.2 seconds instead of .8 seconds (Shannahan is just not strong enough for the SEC). Either way the middle gets blown up almost every pass play.

Yes, 4 games in, by all means move Hines to the most important position on the OL that makes all the calls/adjustments/read's. Does he know the calls (No) and can he snap? (No)

Hines has played much worse than Shanahan. He's a big issue right now. His play this last game was downright embarrassing. The very last thing we should be thinking about pushing Shanahan to the bench in favor of Hines, who they already tried at center a year ago an was a short experiment.

Shanahan is our highest graded Olineman right now per PFF on our team. And not saying thats a good thing, but he is the very least of the problems on the OLine.

Hines grade this past game - 52.1 with 49.7 pass block and 50.5 run block

Shanahan by comparison was - 63.6 with 67.6 pass block and 61.2 run block

Wasn't Hines the guy that go put on his back into Max? One of the most embarrassing plays I've seen from a guard in a quite a while.

Hines got blown up terribly last game more than any Olineman. It was really bad. He caused a handful of negative plays.

He just has no stamina and is clearly not in shape.

Hines has been really bad this year, out of shape and doesn't look as dominate as his freshman year.

People don't realize that Shanahan is the only center on the roster

eah I dont get where people think we can just easily change one of the toughest positions on the OL just like that.

We've seen Charles Turner try multiple times and multiple times we've seen bad snaps.

They tried Chasen Hines last year and it was so bad it lasted like a week or two trying him out.

Shanahan isnt even one of the problems on the OL either. We've got so many bigger issues right now. Ingram keeps making bad decisions on who to block and lets pressure come up the middle too much. Hines was getting destroyed all last game. We have no idea who is the LT on this team after playing Turner, Bradford, Dellinger, Hill and Dumervil all there the past few weeks after Wire got hurt. Deculus is basically the same player the last 3 seasons here which is an ok RT but the dude literally goes down every game at some point for whatever reason.

I mean Shanahan by no means is a very good player but we have so many issues in so many other spots it makes that look like a blessing we can snap the ball consistently, stay healthy and not get destroyed a bunch at the center position at least.
