...He is a mastermind defensive coordinator,...
except in 2nd half vs. La Tech...Troy State

My point is, he's a good DC, maybe very good, but "mastermind"?

I think the OP means as HC, in which he would not go to the NFL.

If LSU becomes a dynasty, who takes the credit. Aranda or O?

I imahjne DAs contract is very friendly to him, but like I said, I dont Think he is a going to the NFL.

but there is zero evidence to say whether or not he could/would do so as a head coach

This could've been said of every single great coach before they got their opportunity. They have to have an opportunity to prove themselves.

But frequently great head coaches were great coordinators, so he does have that correlation working in his favor. Does that mean that every great coordinator will be a great head coach? Of course not, but great coordinators more reliably turn out to be good coaches as opposed to position coaches.

This isn't as hard to figure out as people try to make it.

Aranda doesn't have one single second of head coaching experience. Maybe he'd be great, maybe he'd be a flop - we have no history to go on.

Our next head coach will be one with a proven record of success as a head coach.

Kirby Smart didn't have a single second of HC experience and everyone that didn't give him that shot missed out. Same with Lincoln Riley.

What we want ideally is a AD that actually can do his job and doesn't simply rely on previous experience in making a decision. That's a lazy evaluation process. Sometimes the best guy for the job is a coordinator that just hasn't gotten his shot yet.

I have never seen anything in DA’s history to indicate an interest in the NFL. He has never played or coaches there. He is being paid more than any NFL defensive coordinator.

He interviewed for the Packers DC opening while he was with Wisconsin. I believe he has interviewed for at least one other NFL defensive position but I’m not going to go and find the articles to confirm.

The bigger reach is that he has interest in being a head coach. Nothing he has shown so far has indicated he enjoys dealing with the adminstrative side of being a HC. It’s no secret he doesn’t really recruit. He’s never really been said to play a role in motivating players or managing attrition. He could always be waiting for that really great offer, but he could be a power 5 HC right now if he really wanted to be and yet his name just doesn’t pop up in HC searches. If he told his agent he was open to it I think his name would be mentioned.

Totally my opinion, but I think the guy just really likes calling defense and having freaks of nature execute his vision. If the NFL comes calling I don’t think he turns them down, but I’m not sold that he leaves LSU to be a head coach until I see it.

Not if Alleva is still in charge. He might pursue that coach, but when he has the audacity to consider offers from other schools Alleva will throw a tantrum and promote Meatball to HC.

LSU could certainly become a dynasty but the prevention of that becoming reality is with those far above the field.

Have to stop LA tech on defense before becoming a head coach.

He’s 41. He hasn’t been in a position to do any of those things.

I’ve seen him in kids living rooms.

I’ve heard recruits y’all about him.

And he’s onl like 43. His name is going to start popping up in HC searches soon enough.

Recruits have raved about his film study. He has gone on in-homes to help close but he just doesn’t take trips like other assistants. He obviously felt like he was old enough to coach in the NFL, why hasn’t he made an effort to interview for HC openings? I’m not saying his interests or goals will never change but up to this point he has never shown interest in anything but coordinator and defensive assistant positions, so that’s what I’m going to base my opinion on.

Ok..

Dabo never showed an interest in a fricking HC position till he was a HC.

We need to stop coddling ourselves and pretending he’ll take less than Orgeron because he is so fine and content being a DC forever.

sure, but it's higher risk because there's no history (as a head coach, which requires a completely different skill set compared to a coordinator) to judge him on.
