USC did indeed lose to Texas in the 2006 NCG-- in Pasadena. BUT--- USC DID win a national championship in their home state-- on January 1, 1968 they beat Indiana 14-3 in the Rose Bowl and were voted national champions.

Also the 2003 USC team was voted National Champions (#1 in AP poll) after winning the Rose Bowl 28-14 over Michigan

Modify your question, which team is playing for a natty in their actual home stadium vs home state. LSU, uSC etc have played in their home state for Nattys but not in there actual home stadium.

It's not just their home state. It's their city and home stadium. Huge difference

The NC is pretty much going to be Cali, Florida and then Cotton bowl, sugar and peach bowls so it limits the pool

Longshot, but schools in AZ play football too.

Without looking it up, UGA played in Atlanta in 2017. They lost to Bama.

I think Miami is the only one that is playing in their actual home stadium. It also helps that I think Miami is one of the only schools that plays in a pro stadium that are used for the bowl/playoff games.

Miami - Orange Bowl (Joe Robbie)
UCLA - Rose Bowl

Sugar, Fiesta, Cotton, Peach are pro stadiums.
