He wanted the Rice job last week, so he wanted out of Stanford apparently

Seems like a pretty average hire..but LSU is a pretty average basketball school.

The guy also looks kinda old..was hoping for a younger coach like Grant or Ford...but again..LSU is just an average bball program.

Welcome aboard Coach Johnson..

Is this really true?

I like it...

But another side of me doesn't....

I kind of wanted a younger guy also...

Hell yeah I'll take this hire. I like it better than hiring Grant.

This is the 4th or 5th guy I've heard that we were "set to hire." I'll wait until the presser to celebrate this one.

That being said I would be happy if he's our guy. And happy this thing is over with.

I thought for sure he just had his name out there to negotiate his extension at Stanford. Anyone know the story behind why his contract hasn't been renewed yet. What is his current salary?

He's not old. In fact, he's younger than Les Miles. He graduated from college in 1983, so that puts him around 48-50.

Seems like a slow em down defensive type guy, plus he had success with Big men.

like I said consistency in the program is what we've been begging for and he seems to fit the bill

He's won a total of 2 NCAA tourney games in his career. I mean I think he will be a good coach..but Im not gonna go crazy over this hire. I think it's in line with the type of program we have here at LSU.

Exactly.....It seems his teams don't lay any goose eggs. I'd just like a coach that can come in and make the tournament 80% of the time and make a nice run half of the time they make the tournament.

Johnson is 51 and will turn 52 in September. From what I remember about his Nevada teams, they liked to run up and down the court a little. I think he slowed things down because he had such a post presence with the Lopez twins. Also, his teams generally play pretty good defense.

We didn't interview enough black coaches.
