When LSU first fired Brady, how many of you had TJ in your top 10 for possible hires?

I didn't have him in there because I thought he was out of our league to be honest. He has had success on the West Coast in the Pac 10, and was on his way to a Sweet 16 tournament run and near top 10 finish. This is WAY above what I expected.

Regarding a contract extension: The AD that hired Johnson @ Stanford, Ted Leland, retired/quit a couple of years ago. The only thing I can figure is that the new AD wanted to bring in his own guy. I have a feeling this will come back and bite him in the arse.

How many people had Saban? None. A few had Miles, but not many.

From what I remember about his Nevada teams, they liked to run up and down the court a little.

yeah, he's definitely a run the floor type of coach.

As a stanford fan, I can only say good riddance to that shitty coach. LSU fans, enjoy timeouts called too late to stop runs, timeouts right before media timeouts, an incomprehensible rotation (you know the worst player on your team...get more familiar), and, of course, a stagnant ugly offense.

Congratulations on what appears to be a great hire. I will now be rooting for LSU - at least when it comes to SEC b-ball. First class guy, first class citizen, first class coach and first class recruiter. Does that sum it up good enough for you doubters?

Mike Brey-
2000-Present Head Coach Notre Dame
1995-2000 Head Coach Delaware
1987-1994 Assistant Coach

Brey led Delaware to unprecedented success during his five-year tenure as the Blue Hens' head coach from 1995-2000 including postseason bids in each of his last three seasons

Prior to Brey's arrival, Irish teams had not received an NCAA tournament bid in more than a decade. Before the berth in 2001

Notre Dame made its fourth appearance in seven seasons under Brey in '07 by earning an at-large as the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region.

Even if you know nothing else, there is a simple way to judge the excellence of a coaching hire. How many people on the Rant are against it?
The number of negative responses here prove that it was a terrific hire.

i think this has the potential to be a great hire. we'll see how well he adapts to living in the south. culture down here is a little bit different than the west coast.

lsu is not a top notch basketball school, for what we are, a football school, this is a really good hire. we've gotten a proven coach from a "bcs" conference. like others have said, we got the coach from STANFORD not samford.

I was shocked when I heard you guys hired Johnson, but the more I thought about it, the more it makes sense

Stanford will be horrible next year without both Lopez twins and he's at the end of his contract after the best season for the school in about 5 years. Looks like he is cashing out before Stanford slips and his price falls....great coach though

There arent many people here that think it was a "bad" hire. Some think it was simply "ok" but not spectacular. Some are taking a "wait and see" philosophy.

I personally think it was a "good" hire and will be optimistic for the bball program.

A "bad" hire would be the head coach of Samford...

Since his first 2 years at Nevada, he has a winning record 7 consecutive seasons (9 seasons total as a head coach).

Brady's most consecutive winning seasons in 16.5 years as a head coach is 5. Brady had a losing season 7 times in 16.5 years.

Johnson has made the NCAA Tournament 4 times in 9 seasons. Brady made the NCAA Tournament 4 times in 16.5 seasons.

If you exclude the first 3 building years at Nevada, Johnson has made a postseason tournament 6 consecutive seasons.

I agree. I think it was a solid hire. Not my first choice, but really, we couldn't expect much better. Plus, it's not like Grant and Bennett were sure things.
