That's like LSU football losing to Vanderbilt or Miss. St. or even worse losing to Tulane.
Or, losing to Kentucky and Arkansas (at home) in the same season. That could never happen, now could it. :pimp:

Their expectations are not that different from LSU fans. In fact, over the past 30 years, the two schools have similar records. Washington has 16 seasons with 8 or more wins, LSU has 18.
8 win seasons: Wash. 5 LSU 7
9 " " : " 3 " 4
10 " " : " 5 " 3
11 " " : " 2 " 2
12 " " : " 1 " 1
13 " " : " 0 " 1
Conference Championships: Washington 6, LSU 4
National Championships: Washington 1, LSU 2
Yes, you all have had more success recently. But I guarantee you Washington fans are clamoring to get back to the days when Don James was winning a Pac-10 championship every 3 years or so and finishing as a top-10 ranked team half of the time.

As an LSU fan, I don't think you ought to be dissing Steve Spurrier. He was 11-1 against you all while @ Florida. Although, I guess I can understand your angst.

I was also there. The game started around noon, I believe. One of the smallest crowds I've ever seen at a USC game. Also probably the quietest. Small but very vocal contingent of LSU fans in the SE corner made most of the noise that day. I can't recall anything positive about the Trojan's performance that day.

I'd be willing to bet that there was a helluva lot more money bet on USC -41 than on Stanford +41..
Actually, I believe the line opened @ USC -43. That means the money came in pretty heavy on Stanford for the line to move two whole points. That is a big move here in Vegas. The line adjusts based on the betting, so there is seldom a game where there is that great a disparity on betting a point spread.

My bad. You are correct. Oregon St. finished #4 and #5 in 2000. It was Oregon who finished #2 in 2001.

Oh, really? I thought my post was more giving props to Florida and their domination of the SEC during the 90's. For those with reading comprehension problems (hint, hint) I was making the point that just because Florida dominated your conference during this decade doesn't necessarily reflect poorly on the rest of the SEC. And, by the same token, should not in the case of USC and the Pac-10 during this current run. Get over your paranoia. LSU currently can stand on their own accomplishments over the past five years. You shouldn't be so sensitive of discussions involving times prior to that.

The time frame referenced was 1990 thru 2001. Not the LAST decade. I'm not disputing the current talent level of the SEC. You are, top-to-bottom, the most talented conference in college football. My point was that even though you had other talented teams during the referenced time frame, you had one team winning 85% of their conference games, about the same % as Pete Carroll has won in the Pac-10. Just because you have one dominant team doesn't necessarily mean the rest of the teams are not talented. And, regarding Alabama and Tenn. winning NC: The Pac-10 had Oregon and Oregon St. finish #2 in the country during this time frame prior to Pete Carroll's arrival @ USC. Hardly indicative of a "weak conference."

News flash brah....Florida was pretty fricking good.
Thank you. You helped me make my point. Nowhere did I say that Florida wasn't an excellent football team during that time frame. However, based on the logic of many of the posters on this board who want to devalue USC's accomplishments under Pete Carroll because of the conference they play in, we would apply the same logic to Florida's almost complete domination of the SEC under Steve Spurrier.

For all of you wanting to dump on the Pac-10 because one team has dominated the past six years, maybe you should look at the recent history of your own conference.

Big 12? No. Big 10? No. Pac-10? No. ACC? No. Big East? No. The answer, of course, is Florida of the SEC.
3-0 vs. Arkansas
10-0 vs. South Carolina
11-1 vs. LSU (oh my gosh)
11-1 vs. Georgia (oh my gosh 2)
8-4 vs. Tennessee
6-3 vs. Alabama
8-3 vs. Auburn
12-0 vs. Kentucky
10-0 vs. Vanderbilt
2-0 vs. 'Ole Miss
4-2 vs. Miss. St. (Are you kidding me? Miss. St. had as many wins against Florida during this period as LSU and Georgia COMBINED?)

Just ten years ago? This team had the following head-to-head records against its fellow conference members over a 12 year period:
3-0
10-0
11-1
11-1
8-4
6-3
8-3
12-0
10-0-1
2-0
4-2
Record of 85 wins and only 15 losses from 1990 thru 2001 in their conference games. A winning % of .850 or 85% in their conference games. Who is this team and which conference do they play in?
3-0

For all of you wanting to denigrate USC playing Notre Dame every year: That would be like me making fun of you all playing Alabama every year. (ND is the equivalent of a conference game for USC because we do play them every year.) Neither of those teams has been good most of this decade, but historically speaking are among two of the most consistently great programs over the life span of college football. There have been times where ND dominated USC and even longer stretches where 'Bama dominated LSU. And, those two teams have combined for a ton of NC. LSU's ascendency to the elite of college football is a relatively new phenomenon. Time will tell if it lasts. As for ND and Alabama - well, they have earned their place in the sun over an 80 year period. LSU has a long way to go to even dream about that kind of legacy.

As we would watching the likes of Idaho, San Jose St., San Diego St., Houston, UNLV and La Tech.
Idaho - last played in 2007
San Jose St. - 2001
San Diego St. - 1999
Houston - 1996
UNLV - 1997
La Tech - 1999
During that time frame USC has scheduled the following teams - most home-and-away: Florida St., Penn St., Purdue, Nebraska, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, BYU, Auburn, Colorado, Kansas St. and Illinois with Ohio St. and Virginia on deck. And, Notre Dame every year. For those wanting to downplay the current status of Nebraska and Notre Dame I will say two things: Nebraska was a top-10 team coming off of three NC during the 90's when those games were scheduled and ND has perenially been a top-10 team since USC began playing them in 1925. Not to mention that both of these programs have a more storied football history than LSU. When we played K-St., they were a top-10 team and Colorado was top-20. Florida St. was top-5 and #1 one of the years USC played them. I guess the closest thing LSU has to a regular OOC rival would be Tulane. Now, that must really get you all excited every year!

In regard to LSU's OOC schedule: Hey, it's your team and you/they can schedule who they want. However, I as a FAN would have difficulty getting excited about buying a ticket to go watch my Tigers trounce teams such as N. Texas, Tulane, Utah St., Mid. Tenn., etc. Obviously it has served you well from the perspective of winning SEC/NC, but I personally can't get too worked up about going and watching a recreation of the Lions vs. the Christians - which is what a lot of those LSU OOC games resemble. Boring.

Wow! Finally someone who gets it. I have never understood the thought process of someone who tears down the quality/talent of an opponent but then wants props for beating them. Doesn't/shouldn't work that way. LSU beat some good teams last season, and tOSU was one of them.

Rodman: Here are some facts to ponder before you start poking fun at Washington:
From 1989 thru 2007, they had a grand total of 4 losing seasons. None of them prior to this decade. They had 8 seasons with 8 or more wins, including a NC in 1991.
During that same time frame, LSU had 8 losing seasons - double the # of Washington. And, LSU had exactly TWO seasons during that time frame with 8 or more wins until this decade. Obviously, LSU is currently the stronger program. But if you know anything about the history of college football, you know that Washington has had more success both at the conference as well as the national level over the years. And, they will be back. Taking for granted a "W" next year in Seattle would be a huge mistake.

Seven of these programs are historically among the all-time great programs, both in terms of total wins and NC. The three Florida schools mentioned are relatively new to the elite landscape (last 25 years) but have certainly made up for lost time. LSU is on the cusp, as he points out, which certainly is indicative of your accomplishments this decade.
