Transfer portal has made the college game much harder on pitchers

It used to be that the bottom of the batting order was a big drop off. Now 7-9 can still put it in the parking lot. All of the good teams can hurt you 1-9 and there is no break. And that won't be changing anytime soon.
So you flat out have to have some elite pitchers.
No they don't grow on trees but the money has to be spent there.
People joke that Jay can only get it done with Skenes, Kade Anderson, and Eyanson.....but you simply have to get those guys these days (exception being Skenes the Unicorn).
The average pitchers (that you have to fill the roster with) will continue to get hammered.

How is it that many top teams don't have a Skenes, Anderson, etc., and can still not walk and hit batters at the rate that our pitchers do (from Ace to bottom of the bullpen)?

Yeskie likes to nibble more because he knows pitches center cut are going in the parking lot (which they have been)
Yes there has to be a better balance.
It is reasonable to ask if you are otherwise better off having guys that can paint the black inside/outside, up/down than guys throwing 95 to the backstop or middle of the plate

13 other SEC teams seemed to do better with their pitching. It’s time for Yeski to bounce

Just a few more days until that abomination is removed.

You don’t need a skenes or an Anderson to not fricking lead the league in walks.
You also can’t pay a lineup 1-9 and also pay 3 stud pitchers

Transfer portal has made college sports worse period. Esp made it harder on the coaches. I have zero sympathy for players this day n age.
I can’t imagine trying to be a coach and build a program when there’s a revolving door for players. Every year you have to start over basically. The whole system is a joke.

Ha! Genetics exploitation???
Why is the sky blue some days and not others?
The question should be do we have coaches that can get the desired results. The answer is yes but not always. It takes overwhelming patience, which scarce here. Enter the expression, “that’s baseball”.

You most certainly will have to pay 1-9 and at least 2 stud pitchers. That is if you plan on winning big

Will Wade just said basically all his money is going to the top 8 on the roster. 5 play at a time. So the starters and a few more. Kirby Smart just said depth is a thing of the past. Have to hit it with the starters and hope they don't get injured
I didn't say we have to like the new reality

For a program like LSU, it benefits them significantly more. Feel much worse for the small schools who have done a great job of identifying and developing talent, just to help a kid get a big payday at a large program.
I think the big issue with building this years team is that it seems like we kind of just grabbed some middle to lower in guys that were available. The past few years we were clearly tampering to get some elite guys to enter the portal then sign them. I know we unsuccessfully tried for a couple guys last year, like Ace Reese, but that’s why we ended up with Dardar, Simpson, etc.
Since our offseason will start this week, I’d expect a different outcome this year.

Another Rant poster can’t defend Yeskie’s performance but pivots to banning what he doesn’t like to read.
Learn to include posters who tell us what “we need to know” instead of “what you want to read”.

Did I defend Yeskie's performance this year?
Can you defend your contention that Yeskie will be fired after Tuesday?

You don't tell us anything; you simply crap on any LSU team you can. You dole out the occasional backhanded compliment so you can point back to that and pretend like you aren't always crapping on LSU.
How sure are you that Yeskie will be terminated after Tuesday? Are you ban bet sure?

There are no backhanded compliments on what LK and WW are doing, they are fully supported and excellent detail coaches. I’m all in.
I’m also certain JJ will have to make staff changes after this historically bad season. It’s the nature of the job and he can’t fire the hitting coach (himself). It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see Yeskie is in trouble; coupled with JJs more frequent mound visits of late.
Ban bets are just stupid on an opinion driven message board. I enjoy reading your pie in the sky posts, though they’ve proven to be horribly misguided when our men’s sports just went 15-42 in the SEC.

Yes and no. The small programs still have less overall turnover year to year in baseball and are able to develop most of their roster over 3-4 years. They may lose a player or two to the portal and they’re not having to worry about the draft nearly as much either. They can focus mostly on recruiting and developing good college baseball players. That said, they’re also not typically competing to make it to Omaha every year so there’s a give and take there.
